New Glarus Bakery

New Glarus Bakery is tops in my list of decadent foods for the holidays, the only draw back is UPS for shipping!

I specifically stopped at the New Glarus Bakery to purchase a special birthday cake for my mother's 80th birthday only to walk in and find the cake display dark and frosted over so that the cakes were totally non-visible - couldn't see the designs, colors, decorations (if any), sizes, etc. I got very cold vibes from the workers who were not welcoming at all. Then one of the gentleman asked if he could help me. I asked what kinds/flavors of cakes they had since, again, I could not see anything to go by. He opens up the doors to the freezer/cooler and starts reading off the different types of cakes. I told him that I was texting my family to ask their opinion and could only remember three of the types. I asked him if he could tell them to me again and I got a pretty "put out" vibe from him. He tells the flavors to me again and I choose one. He does not show it to me (as any other bakery I have been to will show it to you and ask if it is satisfactory). He kind of tosses it on the back counter and asks me if there is anything else I needed. I was a bit taken aback that I wasn't asked if I wanted anything written on it, or decorated, etc. So I asked if I could have some writing on it and, fairly bluntly, asked what I wanted. I proceeded to tell him what I would have liked written on it and he by no means made it clear that he could only get four words on it. So, as I am trying to come up with something special for my mother's 80th birthday, and I'm trying to decide out loud, he stops dead in his tracks and turns to look at me and gave me a look, head tilt and attitude of..."really lady - make up your mind" type of gesture. He proceeds to call someone to take care of the writing and brings it out and, once again, sets it on the back counter and doesn't even bother to ask if it was "okay." To top it off, for the outrageous price for a cake this size (1/4 sheet), it was very low quality. Had I thought sooner, I would have said "you can keep your cake."

The person waiting on me refused to put their mask over their nose when I mentioned the correct way to wear it. She said she was claustrophobic. Well then she shouldn't be with customers.

Angela Neff, the owner, has always been gracious and with a smile on her face. Every time I order something to be shipped out it is done quickly and the products are amazing. My four legged friends especially love her hund crunchies! Paula Lackner

I wish I could remember everything I got. It was all so amazing and delicious! The pretzel was easily one of the best I've ever had.

Excellent mocha torte slices and dark European style bread.High quality indeed.

Love this bakery. So many wonderful and unique things. The Cream Horns are amazing!

Just had the most unfortunate experience here. Three of us were staying in New Glarus for a conference at Epic. I read about the bakery in the “Driftless Explore Guide” so decided to stop in for breakfast prior to heading to Epic. The woman working this morning was extremely rude. She seemed very annoyed with any questions we had and seemed very unhappy working here. We had to just laugh about our experience as it was the opposite of how it was described in the guide.

They make the best pies I've ever eaten...

Absolutely wonderful! Located right downtown. This place has the best donuts in town!!
