My family and I had a wonderful dinner at Row last night. It was our first time in the newly opened restaurant and we loved the space. It was bright and cheery, even on a rainy evening. It was difficult to decide what to order, there were so many tasty looking choices. We shared the shrimp toast to start and I had a yummy Moscow mule. We all enjoyed the shrimp toast but I particularly loved the Thai salad accompaniment. The veggies and herbs were so fresh and the flavor combination was perfect. I had the oyster binh mai served with the most amazing fries. My son and husband devoured the fish and chips and my daughter enjoyed the salmon burger. I can't wait to go back and try more of menu options.
Got take out. The garlic fries are pretty intense. The potatoes are good but there's probably more raw garlic than makes sense. The burger and chicken sandwich were ~OK. Probably pretty good if you have a couple drinks before hanging out and eating, but maybe not worth eating by themselves. Might give it another try at some point, but with the (understandably) high cost of eating out these days I always hope to be "wow'ed" a little bit. Location is definitely cool, and during the less rainy seasons they open up a huge patio that overlooks the water. Very cool "vibes" so I'm sure it's super enjoyable to eat in person. I just wish the execution of the meals were just slightly better.
Was pleasantly surprised they had brunch until 2. Had a Benedict, which was delicious! Great homemade hashbrowns as well. Service was prompt and friendly, too. I'll definitely come back!
Visiting my daughter and son in law and took me this place for lunch. Had fish and chips, corn chowder along with garlic cheese bread it was amazing. I would definitely come back again.
Valentine's evening. After what I imagine was a loooong and exhaaaauuusting day for all the staff.. I had the following experience despite being happy regardless. 4 tables empty as well as an empty bar, I stood in the entryway with my date for 12mins waiting to be seated with nobody else waiting to be seated (the server was sitting or dining with someone who I presume was the owner?, Maybe on break?) and only one table hadn't received their food out there (meaning they weren't currently overwhelmed with orders) plus I called ahead to ask if they were too busy. After being seated at the bar (which I preferred because the seats were higher quality than the wooden chairs on the dining floor), we ordered the steak frites & salmon. The bartender didn't bus the tasting glass from in front of us the entirety of the meal. The steak came out blue, I ordered rare and the fries were cold. I'm obviously sad to point this out but I just wanted my steak bloody & rare, not seared on the outside and raw (which can be identified by feeling the meat). They reheated the steak at my request which then came out medium rare but was better. Was not a "melt in your mouth" type of steak or seasoned enough. Fresh fries and the salmon entree were epic (even though minced garlic took over the flavor of both dishes). However, my glass of Makers was poured with one larger fly (kind of like an ant with wings) and one smaller fly (gnat).. which again I'm not mad at this point, just feeling really terrible to point it out after the steak being reheated. After everything I tipped $20 ($112 total) and went to dairy queen afterward. Really bummed this wasn't our new upper-echelon spot to eat here in our hometown. I'd have happily paid up to $40-45 for a tastier steak dish 😔 Lastly, don't yell the server's name when food is ready. Can say "order" or ding a modernized bell noise or something; this isn't the 1950's where women are yelled at to serve food ☠️ I'm still searching for a high-quality dinner spot.
3 stars for environment & server's good personality (otherwise would have been 1-star)
A lack of sustainable passion & respect was noticed from the head chef. Which isn't personal, it's business-educated feedback from one craftsman to another. Evidence of this was the t-shirt while cooking expensive dishes, dropping multiple noisy items on the ground during our hour there, obviously no in-person apology for the raw steak, and the passive-aggression in how the reheated plate looked in appearance. 😐
Pains me to report this experience. I think on a "good" day maybe things could have been better. Could have just not charged me for the meal, charged my date for the cocktail & salmon and I'd have tipped $50 or $60 for the gesture.
Pros - Good food & service Cons - Food served on tiny flat trays. These are terrible. Food (fries in particular) falls off, bacon was hanging over the side when served and touched table. No one wants food that touches the tables. They look chic but are not practical.
It's nice to go to a new restaurant in Olympia especially one thats just opens its doors and has good service right from the beginning, not to mention great food. A fun and refreshing spot we'll be back. It was busy soon after we arrived
My friend had the salmon hash and loved it. I didn't love my dish but it was unique. The place is very awesome and and the staff was attentive and friendly.
I want to give the food a more stars but it lacked seasoning. I had the fish and chips. Fish was good but the better was tasteless. Brownie with ice cream was in point.
