This place seems to draw a young crowd, yet older folks in their 50s and 60s were there when we visited and everyone was relaxed and enjoying the atmosphere/artwork and crafts, and camaraderie.
The menu is eclectic American. There is a strong effort to serve local products without narrowing their selection. One diner was telling others that he'd never even seen kohlrabi, only heard about people growing it. He was glad he took a chance on trying something new, because he was enjoying it very much. Most of the produce and protein was described as organic and non-GMO. This included a wide variety of greens, a few seasonal vegetables such as a variety of squash, cauliflower, and potatoes. Trout from the local Shenandoah River and beef and lamb from local farms were also being served. The breads were homemade, whole grain, and non-GMO.
The Gathering Grounds does not take reservations and you may have to wait in a short line during busy breakfast and dinner hours. However, people seem to be seated within 10 to 15 minutes.
I regret that I very few photos because we were on an overnight trip to visit to see our daughter and were busy enjoying her delightful companionship along with the Gathering Grounds. I highly recommend both.

We came for lunch on vacation because of the great reviews. There was a 20 minute wait for the table which was okay because we walked around Luray and the host called us when a table was ready. We were seated at a high top in the front window. We ordered waters and our sandwiches. We overheard the waitress apologizing to the party behind us and packing up their order to go. The table next to us ate their food and left. The table was cleared and reseated. I drank 3 glasses of water. The waitress apologized to us, said the kitchen was backed up, and said our order was in the window. Meanwhile the table seated 45 minutes after us got their meals... Our waitress offered 20% off. We got our meal after almost 2 hours from walking in. The chicken salad sandwich was good. The croissant fluffy and toasted. My daughter liked her club sandwich. The pasta salad that was described as having onions, peppers, cucumber and spices was awful. There was a variety of pasta, ziti, farfele, caprese, with tiny minced veggies (non existent) with a sickening sweet sauce. We left hungry.

This place always seems to be busy but now I understand why. Very good sandwiches and baked goods (that are made fresh from the bakery). Staff is very friendly. This place is great for lunch in Luray. Would stop by again if I find myself in the area once more

We so enjoyed stopping in for breakfast while we were in town (we're from North Carolina and had never been to Luray). Cinnamon rolls were absolutely delicious. My husband enjoyed his omelette here. I also would recommend the raspberry chai. The atmosphere was terrific and we totally loved that it was dog friendly! The staff was excellent as well. We will definitely stop back by when we are back in town.

Oh my goodness. If your in the area stop by. We ordered a pretzel it came with a wonderful mustard sauce. One of my favorites. Home made pastries. The best latte in town!!

Went for breakfast with a group of 6. Pancakes are huge and fluffy. In addition we tried the chocolate chip cookie and cranberry walnut bars. The cranberry bars were absolutely phenomenal!!!

Customer service not great, but ok. But their German ch. cake is the BEST I have had in 70 years. Visiting, tried to get them to do take out on my way to the airport at 8 am, but they could not be bothered - was told sorry would not be able to service you until 8:30. I will be longing for that cake forever.
