Love this place! took my daughter for her 13th birthday and she was taken back by the beautifully displayed dishes that were made. Uchi got my vegetarian child to eat meat! We were a table of 4 of got the chef's tasting which consisted of 10 plates and we let the server take control to cater to our liking. We just told her what we did not want to eat and she brought our fabulous plates. The anticipation of what was next was very exciting. It is pricey but worth it. This place is great for a date. Cannot wait to go back! I am not that person that takes pictures of food but I couldn't help not to snap some.
LIFE OF MO
So I go to sushi places from time to time, but I have to admit, that I have never been to Uchi in Houston. It’s the most upscale sushi place I have ever been to. I sat at their wine bar as I decided to dine alone. The venue is low lit and personable. The light only shines bright on where they present the dishes. It’s all about presentation and flavor here. When you order sake, they present it to you in a wooden box because the wood helps extract the true potential of the sake flavor. The food is often laid to rest on wooden boards. The bartender was so thorough and offered excellent company with her ability to engage in open dialogue. They have several different menus you can choose from with an array of flavors. Pictured is:
Hirame-flounder
Hama Chili-yellowtail, ponzu, Thai chili, ginger
Spicy sake maki- salmon, aka Kosho, avocado
Tomato nigiri-pineapple, candied jalapeño

Han, the bartender, is phenomenal! I really enjoyed his happy hour service and recommendations today.

Uchi easily maintain its reputation as a top restaurant in Houston through its creative Japanese cuisine and impeccable service. Chefs are meticulous in picking fresh ingredients and creative sauces/touches. Service is where could be improved. Staffs know less than its customer; attitude anything but friendly. Portion is tiny for its price. For average spending of $120 per head, we expected more.

Our server Anthony, was awesome! He, as well as the rest of the staff were very good at suggesting then explaining menu items and pairings. As far as sushi is concerned this place is worth the money. The food tasted delicious and the plating made them more the appealing.

Not your typical sushi bar. More like an experience. Pricy? Some would say yes. I would say it's priced accurately. This place is upscale, and the sushi is phenomenal. No soy sauce or wasabi required. As a matter of fact you won't find it anywhere near unless you ask for it, and that would be a travesty. The sushi here is prepared to eat as is and trust me, you will have ZERO complaints. Each dish is unique and full of yummy goodness demonstrated by the essence of flavors playing hopscotch on your taste buds bringing a new experience with each bite. 😋 Every dish is plated beautifully and is presented & explained by the server. Good luck with reservations. They are usually booked 2-3 weeks in advance. However, they do leave space open for walk-ins. Wait time is typically about 45+ minutes for seating unless there's room at the bar. Speaking of bars, the bar has been set. So far, this is the best sushi I've had to date. Don't leave without trying the fried milk dessert.

Sunday evening anniversary dinner. Booth was our server, service couldn't have been better. Entire meal was perfect in every aspect. Can't go wrong with anything on the menu. I will personally vouch for the Denver and Houston locations.

The ingredients and atmosphere (music, decor, chatter) are excellent. The service, effort (no menus, dirty tables) and imagination are really poor.
Super disappointed. May have felt differently about the food with better service.

I love sitting at the sushi bar and letting the chefs choose whatever they want to serve me. Quite pricey but I think the atmosphere, unique experience, and great service make up for it. The portions are small, so if you are hungry, be prepared to have to select several dishes. Also, definitely try various options from the saké menu as they pair well with the food!

Ordered the chef market (10 items) but ended up getting more than 10 items (we weren't aware) so ended up having to pay more and was too full. A lot of the items also have the same citrus taste (bc it's spring) so getting bored of that taste towards the end of the course. Still, good food, good drink, and friendly waiter thus the rating.
