Had to stop coming out of the Badlands cuz of all the hype on the billboards. Reminds us of "South of the Border" on the East coast. We had some buffalo hot dogs and walked around. It was kinda cool to see how big they built it out. Of course since it was Sturgis weeks the place was packed with bikes of all kinds. Glad we stopped - you should too - it's iconic.

A lot of people had recommended we stop at Wall Drug on our recent vacation. After hours of signs promoting it, we decided to stop. It wasn't quite what we expected. It was very, very touristy. But, it was a welcome stretch on our long journey. It helped break up the trip for our family and we did find some neat souvenirs. Now that I know what to expect, I wouldn't mind stopping again, but I definitely wouldn't hype it up in my mind nearly as much. There is a neat history there so I recommend that if you haven't stopped before, you should (at least once).

Ok I agree it’s a total tourist trap kinda place but… you have to admit, their marketing team is fabulous. Everyone has been in the car for hours, there is a safe area for the kids to play and things set up so you can take fun pictures. If you need something you can probably find it there including lots of other things you don’t need, touristy stuff. It’s a short distance off the free way too.

Well. I wanted to like Wall Drug and I appreciate the advertisements along the highway. But honestly this place is a tourist trap. And the food was overpriced cafeteria food. Overcooked onion rings. Wilted lettuce salad. Homemade ranch dressing? There were literally flies landing on the donuts and pies in the dessert case. Ummmm...I don't think so. Chicken tenders were no better than you get a school cafeteria. Very disappointing. I would suggest trying to find some place local to eat. The five cent coffee. Tastes like five cent coffee

As we traveled through South Dakota heading for Mount Rushmore on I-90, there were literally SO many signs for Wall Drug Store, that it was a bit confusing. I kept asking myself why a 'Drug Store' would have over one hundred freeway signs. Hmmm.
Well, it turns out the 'Drug Store' is actually several stores all connected. This outlet mall of sorts is located in a small town called Wall in South Dakota. Ultimately, it felt more like a tourist trap than anything else. Most stores are Souvenir type of shops. There are a few restaurants. There are some photo opportunities (see attached photos). Honestly though, I don't think it's worth the hype. If you have a lot of time to kill, .....maybe. It IS a good place to stretch your legs and go to the bathroom. I didn't really care for the restaurant selection. If you have a lot of shopping to do, you would probably like it.

A fun place to shop and love the fudge shop especially! Great for gifts for those back home. Great old west ambiance and cultural gift ideas. One thing, the restaurant is expensive with small portions. Better off eating before or after leaving. Definitely worth the stop at Wall Drug though! Also a small but nice chapel in the facility.

Fun for the family and neat see the old town feel. Lots of things to buy and great places for photos. The old fashion candy store was one stop we could not pass up. It's worth the stop.

Wall Drug is a unique, almost necessary experience, if only to see the man behind the curtains, to prove to oneself the nature of our being and the deception that is possible as such.
For a mere 5 cents, you may partake of coffee, decent in taste so as to neither please nor offend the senses. Then, perchance to lose yourself in the hallways of produce, excess, and revel in the high magic of the modern age.
Somewhere, a 6 foot rabbit and a terrible lizard beckon, should you be so inclined.

Stopped in for lunch after several hikes in the Badlands National Park. Spent about 90 minutes browsing the different areas of the complex. Everything from camping gear to boardgames; western wear to knick knacks; and just about anything else you might need from a “.05/.10 cent store”.
Food ordering moved right along - lines can get long quick if a couple busses stop in. Went with the famous beef sandwich. Tasted great! Post roast on bread with mashed potatoes and gravy.
Learned from the gentleman ordering in front of me that to-go coffee and a donut are FREE FOR VETERANS. Got mine for desert!
The walk from the parking lot was a little hot and only thing I didn’t find was a bag of ice. Must be in there somewhere???

Make sure to try the free ice-water and 5 cent coffee, minimum. You should also try their famous doughnuts, which they've been making since the 1950's. This famous stop has alot of shops, neat stuff to see, good food, and even a bit of history. Outside there's the original well they used for the free ice water starting in 1931, that you can drink from. The giant Jackalope is out there too.
