Brakeman’s is essentially the face of Mathews. I love this spot, the staff, the owners, and of course the coffee. They do a great job with their bean selection and make fantastic drinks from their drip to their seasonal menu. The charming old house gives the perfect coffee shop vibes. If you can find a spot to sit it’s a comfortable place to work or hang out. The outside seating and back patio is beautiful. Muffins and snacks are the food options and all drinks are to-go style.

A gem in the heart of downtown Matthews. The old home has been beautifully renovated with ample seating, the staff is friendly and most importantly the coffee is spectacular. The atmosphere is wonderful. Whether you are sitting out front with friends catching up, slowly making your way through each room to see the art on display, or finding a quiet corner to do your work Brakeman’s is an enjoyable place to spend time.

Only visit this coffee shop twice so far but it’s always quick and friendly service. Their iced vanilla latte is delicious! The vibe is really relaxed and their bakery items look delicious.

I love the story behind Brakeman’s, to slow life down like the brakeman on the train. There is a shady patio out back, inside tables and out front seating to enjoy Downtown Matthews. They have a large drink selection and delicious treats. My favorites are the Ticket Please (Expresso milkshake) and the Matcha latte.

Ian, Scott, Tyler, and Wilson are the best workers there. Absolutely deserve a raise, they always make the best coffees, hand out the best looking pastries and knows how to help you out with what you want to order. They give out the best recommendations and my husband will never drink coffee from any other place but this one. Super nice and friendly people, from customers to friends :) 💕💕💕💕💕

Has great coffee and amazing that it includes a kids play area and kid snacks. This is something that's quite often overlooked. Joyful for us parent types.
