This place was recommended to me by my aunt for their delicious homemade caramel and chocolate sauces. I'm so glad I came in! The service was friendly and the organic coffee was awesome! Thanks Local Mocha for making this Metro-Detroit girl feel welcome.

Awful experience when visiting with my girlfriends this afternoon. While waiting for our other friend we went to the seats in the back corner so I could nurse my 2 month old somewhat privately while waiting to order as he was starting to fuss. An older man who we presumed is the owner came out asking us why we were being so rude by sitting there without ordering. We explained we have one more person coming and would like to wait until he got there and he started getting louder about how rude we were being. Then telling us we could not sit there and needed to leave. We were mortified.
So disappointing to see a shop owner be so rude, why anyone would want to give any business to such an unwelcoming shop I’ll never know. Sad.

Have never had an experience bad enough to compel me to write a review, but this place really shocked me. Came from Madcap, the clearly superior coffee place next door (where I spent $15), but felt like giving this place a fair shot as well. Walked in and felt an ominous ambience; completely empty except the single woman in the store, strangely quiet. Was not aware that she was there for a moment, when she finally spoke she did not seem glad to see us. We mistakenly asked for something not on the menu then decided we no longer wanted to buy anything since it wasn’t available. Instead of simply explaining that it wasn’t an item, she started harassing us about our behavior and the fact that we threw out some trash from another store in her trash can, which is not what they do in the area (apparently). We did not say much in response, just looked confused and smiled politely, but she continued to ramble. I’m not sure what made her think she had the right to say this, and was extremely rude and off putting. Keep in mind that
1. We were a group of relatively young people who had clearly spent the entire day out, visiting many shops
2. Madcap, the shop we visited before, had no visible trash cans, and we simply threw our trash there because it was the first one we saw
3. She only started to harass us after we decided not to purchase anything
4. We are not from the area and were not aware of the areas norms
5. There was no indication that the trash can was “customers only”
She seems to have an affinity for threatening to post surveillance footage, as shown in the responses to other negative reviews. That would be perfectly fine, as the only party she’ll incriminate is herself. Not surprising the store was empty, especially when Madcap was beyond expectations. Do not waste your time and money on this store.

This review is based on my experience from Oct 2016.
I had never been here or knew anything about them before I visited for the first time.
Atmosphere:
Tight and small space for standing with chairs outside. Inside feels dingy and closed in, a place where you might hope to find a gem of a coffee shop. 1.5/5
Staff:
I walk
in and stand in front of the counter for almost 2 min without anyone greeting or noticing me. I say "hello?!?" and finally an older man came to the counter. He doesn't say "hello" or greet me in any way, but looks at me bored. I ask the man "what would you recommend?" and the man points to the menu (which I had been examining) and said "look at the menu". I was shocked at such rudeness so I said "it looks like you don't want my business very much" and walked out. 0/5
After talking to some friends who have had similar experiences and read the scathing replies from the owner, I have no idea how they are still in business with such terrible customer service.

One of the better cafes downtown, it sits right next to Madcap Coffee and I highly recommend Local Mocha instead of their neighbor. They not only have various kinds of coffee drinks, including soy options, but also serve food including breakfast and lunch sandwiches that are delicious! If you have a sweet tooth, try their homemade caramel or homemade chocolate. It'll leave you wanting more, making sure you make return trips to say hi to the owners and their kids.

Some of the best coffee in Grand Rapids (if not the best). I recommend the caramel royale latte, it is delicious! The lady that served me was also very nice.

Pretty nice experience! Got an Iced Matcha Latte and while they didnt add any sweetener which I feel like most places do. I just went back home and added some honey.

Their menu is small but it has enough of a variety that it's usually satisfying enough. The place itself is small so you don't want to go in with a large crowd, the prices are very good compared to their neighbors. Its clean and very friendly service. It's on a busy street so don't expect to find parking easily.

I love this place and have been a continuing customer for years. It's way more friendly in environment over "Mad-Cap", which is just a preview to how your service is going to be. Also. They have delicious smoothies and coffee drinks. I suggest the Hazelnut Truffle or Chocolate Mint Mocha.
