Awful, awful experience. Lady from the counter was washing dishes as we walked in and didn’t wash her hands after making our coffee. So I ordered a Chai latte, spices were WAY off, tasted very stale. She pulled it out of a jar, who knows how long the spices have been sitting there. I asked for a different drink and the lady refused to change it. She stated it’s her specialty mix spices, everyone loves it. Well clearly I did not. She didn’t care. Customer service was awful, did not feel welcomed the lady behind us noticed how rude the lady serving us was and ended up leaving. I wouldn’t support this place! Defiantly go nextdoor to Madcap for good Fresh coffee.

Great coffee. I told the lady I had never been in before and to make a recommendation. She made me a latte with homemade chocolate. It is pretty good. I was actually on my way to MadCap because I have a gift card for them, but I don't really like their snobbish atmosphere. I saw this place next door and popped in. This place has more of a hometown diner feel, which is great for someone like me who's from the country and lost in the city.

Bagel sandwich was pretty good. Customer service wasn't great, place was empty and we waited a very long time to get our food made. And then he forgot the coffee we paid for because he didn't write it down. Only gave it 2 stars instead of 1 because the sandwich was very good. But it was almost $6 too so pretty pricey.

I had a long day at a festival and it was time to go. I walked down the street a bit to find a business so I could have an address to use when I call to get a cab. I found Local Mocha. I have been there before and I figured that is a good place as any. While I was there I could get a nice treat or maybe some coffee. My plan was get the address and as I waited enjoy a beverage or baked good (maybe both, why not?). I walked into the store and found who I figured was the owner. It was an older man and he was I am guessing washing some dishes. I asked permission to be in the store as I waited for a taxi. He became very rude and asked why I would wait in a business. I was caught off guard. Most businesses welcome people into the store if the person feels it is safer to be in there verses outside. I said it is safer. He snapped at me that there is nothing wrong with the downtown. That is fine if he don't want me to wait in his store but he didn't need to be rude about it. The tone was very unwelcoming and how he worded things were not great either. A simple "I rather you not wait here." would be great with a much politer tone.

Sir, I will not return to your store again. I saw as I walked down the street another coffee shop I also have been to and I found it to be a nice place. You lost a customer today. I think a person in your store waiting a few moments for a taxi is not a big deal. As stated earlier I was planning on enjoying a product as I waited.

I went into Local Mocha with the full intention of buying an ice cream, as I had mistakenly believed that they had some flavors listed outside of their shop. Please note, I 1) had an intention of purchasing an item and 2) came directly from Map Cap next door where they had no visible trashcans (I later found out they have a small trashcan within their bathroom, but a very SMALL one clearly for small wastes) 3) the time that passed from when my group of four left Map Cap to entering Local Mocha was perhaps 45 seconds at the most. Upon entering Local Mocha I was immediately uncomfortable as the atmosphere was simply unpleasant. No customers inside and complete silence. My friend and I both threw away our trash as they have a full size trashcan near their counter. I took a look at the menu indoors because I was curious as to the prices but was unsure after taking a look at the menu inside. When it turned out that I was mistaken about the item that I thought they had, I said I was 'okay' and had plans to leave. At that point, we hadn't wasted more than five minutes of our time inside the store, had spoken three or four lines to the woman working but she took it upon herself to be outraged. Berating us for throwing away our trash in her store after we had clearly been to other places that should have had places for us to throw away waste, saying we should have been aware that Grand Rapids downtown has trashcans outside for purposes such as ours. This was only our second visit to Grand Rapids and, as I said above, perhaps 45 seconds had elapsed since we left Mad Cap, not nearly enough time to wander in search for a trash can. My friend (I was traveling in a group of four) has already left reviews but I felt it's necessary for more of it to be made clear. Especially as people who have worked in the restaurant industry ourselves, we have an understanding of how customer interaction should work and Local Mocha was clearly inappropriate, over the line, and honestly I'm surprised they're still open as it was completely empty and I've seen similar negative reviews on Facebook, Yelp, and Google.
On another note, their responses to customers online are atrocious as well. If an establishment does something wrong and the customer feels it to be necessary to write a review, the company should apologize and better themselves for the future rather than threatening customers with surveillance camera footage and continuing their rudeness. My friends and I aren't sure as to what it means by "superior because they look like you" but as far as we can understand that's meant to be some sort of racist jab at the fact that we were all Asian? Local Mocha should really not be in business anymore.

Consistently excellent drinks, excellent food, and excellent service. (Try the fruit breads in the little counter display platter! DELICIOUS!)

Nice little homey spot in downtown. Went in and the person working the cafe was chatting with some obvious regulars, sharing details about family history etc. It was really nice.
The coffee was good - lots of options AND they have soy milk and almond milk for non-dairy folks which madcap does not have. I would go back. 4/5 because it's a little dark inside and could use a bit of sprucing up, but if you're doing take-out that won't matter.

Just visiting from Washington State. Stopped and had pancakes and sausage and a banana mango smoothie. Food was wonderful, price is amazing and the lovely lady behind the counter was professional and courteous. While the menu is small, the food is great. I would highly recommend.
