Roots Cafe

It’s an overly Christian atmosphere as soon as you walk in. I found it stifling. We ordered our coffee and left as I didn’t feel welcome. It’s too bad they aren’t more open as it’s an aesthetically beautiful space.

Love this spot. Their mexican mocha is great.

A while ago I had given this place a 2 star review but was practically forced to change it to a 5 star. The owner found mutual friends of mine on Facebook and had them contact me. This lead to her and I having a meeting where she practically tried to use my Christianity and having an influence in the Christian community (back when I lived in Maine) to convince me to give a better review. My honest opinion still stands, it was very loud, the space setup was not ideal, and the coffee wasn’t worth the price. The only reason I’m giving 1 star is because the owner went to my friends on Facebook and had them contact me which is extremely invasive.

Great hidden gem that I can't wait to return to. Great place for brunch or a little lunch. Had the sausage quiche, Saigon salad and the cheese puffs. The food was fantastic and the cheese puffs were like little bites of culinary heaven. I will be turning this into one of my regular stops.

The crepes were great, they come in a cone so that was unexpected but it was pretty well done. Got the Ham & Brie and the Maple Bacon, along with a custom crepe that had peanut butter, raspberry, caramel, and chocolate truffles (it was awesome). They were fairly busy but once we ordered we didn't wait long for food. Finally, the kokomo smoothie was delicious! Definitely a nice atmosphere and even have a "library" of books you can borrow and even a child-care area so you could enjoy a quiet coffee.

Will absolutely return.

I’ve come here a bunch of times! The fact that I can have a safe space for my kiddos to play while I catch up on work, have a date with my husband, or meet in with a friend is amazing! The food is amazing. Especially the crepes! (The last bite at the bottom is to fiends for). I drive almost a half hour for this experience and it’s well worth it

One of your servers followed my husband outside because she provided horrible customer service and still expected a tip. This was a form of harassment and it’s not the first time she has been rude. I’m really inclined to believe that he keeps receiving this treatment because he is black! My husband is there working, we black people do travel, and it was your management that required a tip my mistake but this very much so the correct location I confirmed with him . And I’m sure you didn’t think someone would tell anyone about this treatment! And I returned your call big surprise you didn’t answer! Please don’t try and brush this behavior under the rug, as this is the problem in America today

Love everything about Roots Cafe!! My husband and I met my sister and her husband for breakfast...We’ll definitely be back. :) The atmosphere was perfect and the staff was very pleasant. The resources to borrow and return shows that the owner is investing in the community in an unselfish way. BTW, the vegetable quiche and coffee was on point!

Coffee was good. My omlette was filled with cold, raw veggies (would have been nice to have a heads up on that). The main reason I probably won't come back is the noise level due to the vaulted ceiling. Couldn't concentrate on the work I brought in with me. But it's beautiful in there!

Love this place! The crepes are a great way to deliver the high quality food and it's a gluten-free kitchen which is REALLY hard to find in the Portland and surrounding area.

They have the best chai latte around.
