I discovered Roots driving between my hotel in Portland and the family we were visiting in Standish. The place seems to be affiliated with some sort of Xtian ministry, and it has a very pervasive hippy Xtian vibe to it. They're not aggressive about it, though (which is good because aggressive Xtianity makes me very uncomfortable).
Everyone is aggressively friendly and the staff seem to know most of the customers. All we had their was breakfast, but their breakfast offerings are well made and fairly priced. They have a diverse coffee menu (which I found to be a little overpriced by Madison Wisconsin standards, but may well be perfectly reasonable for Portland ME).
The layout is awkward, and the counter is pretty slow as everyone coming in is funneled through a pretty narrow space to the one register.
The kitchen is faster than the baristas, which could be a problem if you're eating there. We were taking stuff to go, and we're expecting our food to cool off on the drive, so that wasn't a big deal for us.
Overall, it's a good spot, I'm glad we found it, we'll look for it next time we come to Portland for family.

I enjoyed the food, but both coffees were not very hot and leaked. I asked for a new cup and they topped up my coffee, which while a nice gesture caused the cup to leak further. This time the employee had put the lid on, which confirmed it’s not user error. Please get new cups/lids that don’t leak!

Best business cafe started ever in Westbrook. The team is amazing, the decoration is well taken care of, totally different world and way far from just a cafe. Highly recommended

Wonderful Cafe and bakery!
The folks there are so nice, polite and treat you like a vip!
Baked goods are delicious and the coffee and tea beverages are made to order, my fav..., the matcha green tea almond milk lattes hot or cold 🥶

Ordered a cortado and the woman gave a frittata instead. When reordering, it wasn’t that she misheard cortado - she didn’t know what it was, but it was even on the menu.. on that same trip, I ordered a kids steamer. It was so hot, that it wasn’t to drink for another hour.
At the end of the day, I’m not going to go back because it is kind of culty and feels too exclusive (and offputting) if you’re not a Christian.

Really friendly staff. The upper sitting area was perfect for eating and enjoying the beautiful weather. My sister is celiac and I introduced her to Roots and she was so excited to fide that everything on the menu is GF.

The Strawberry Fields salad is probably the best salad I have ever had. The staff was very friendly and the space is bright and welcoming.
