Better after all these years. The barista was super nice. The place was kitschy and clean! The coffee was a little pricey but tasted good. The cereal bar is a brilliant idea. The back rooms were MUCH nicer than back in the day. This place is all character. To the haters, liars and wifi mooches, get over yourselves. Try the library for study and free internet, paying customers deserve priority at a business. I recommend Java Break as one of the most unique coffee shops I have visited. Check it out.

Derrick the barista is very friendly. I often find myself at the Java break when I go to Lawrence to get a coffee. Great pastries and other food. Lots of students always there studying. Great Lawrence institution!

A great local place right in downtown Lawrence. Great staff, entertaining interiors and excellent coffee. Try the legendary Lawrence steamer. Recently again visited this place while in the area. I think it’s even gotten better. Staff is more eclectic as ever. And the service is fantastic

The concept is really cool--24 hour retro coffee shop with a cereal bar! They have great coffee options with pastries (our favorite was a banana bread chocolate chip scone) and a cereal bar where you can choose up to three cereals from a list of 24 or so types as well as choosing your own milk and putting on toppings from almonds to butterscotch chips. They have a free speech room where you can express yourself through writing or drawing on the walls. The wall hangings in the back room are of everyday items that have faces. There are also games to play for a fun day/evening/all-nighter trip there. Great fun. Would definitely recommend.

Cute, local coffee shop with a good atmosphere. I ordered a chai with no whipped cream, but they messed up my order and added whip, which does not complement chai w/ a shot of espresso. 3 stars because the decor almost makes up for the fact that I wasted $3.75.

java break offers some of the best coffee related drinks available with high quality espresso and a knowledgeable staff. there is a couple of bonus, as this location offers free wifi to all customers and on the weekdays stays open until 12 making it a very decent place for college kids to go a do some studying away from the chaos of campus while sipping on some of the best coffee you can get.

Great environment. Ordering is a little high pressure if you've never been there because it gets busy, however, you have the kindest baristas! Everything is homemade from whipped cream (and it's chocolate counterpart) to the Almond milk!! Fantastic deserts, a panini sandiwch menu, at least 40-50 different coffees, frappucinos, afrogottos, espresso shots, and home made frozen coffee concoctions. WiFi with purchase, board games, great space to hang out - 24 hours!

Lovely little place to sit down and do whatever you like to do. There's a quiet, softly lit area to study in. There's a cozy space with board games if you want to play and hang out. There's a vibrant "free speech" room with sharpie graffiti adorning the walls, waiting for you to add your piece.

As far as the drinks go, the selection is unmatched. They have more syrups than I can list here, including kiwi and banana. They can make hot or cold espresso drinks, brewed coffee, and blended coffees. Non-coffee drinks include hot and cold teas, multiple chai flavors, regular and cream Italian sodas, and smoothies.

They also have an in-house bakery that makes excellent pastries, including a build-your-own cupcake system. Aside from that, you can get sandwiches, chips, and a wide selection of cereals in a chinese-style take-away box.

Prices are decent, expect to pay less than $4.00-$5.00 per drink unless you're getting something with a lot of extra shots or syrup.

Really cool place. Lots of owls and stuff. The Chai I ordered was the best I have had anywhere . Also, they had a tiny TV from the dark ages and it was playing old Pink Panther cartoons so there's that.
