The Cafe

Really low key vibe in downtown Ames. Food was spectacular, Korean steak and eggs. Steak was cooked perfectly and flavor was incredible, soft egg, Kimchi fried rice were prefect compliments. Carrot cake for dessert, moist, flavorful and decadent. Was just visiting but would be a regular.

They burn LOTS of wood inside. This releases a lot harmful chemicals into the air, carbon monoxide being one of them. "Emissions from wood smoke can cause coughing, wheezing, asthma attacks, heart attacks, lung cancer, and premature death, among other health effects." (Quote from the american lung association). Also, the things that go on behind the scenes, between the management and employees, is disgusting. If you knew exactly what is going on everyday and what has been done, you wouldn't even think of stepping foot in here again. Food is good though don't get me wrong. The owner was very nice to me and the rest of my table as well.

First off.. omg! Everything is so delicious! I don't care for how dark it is, but the food is amazing. So fresh & cooked perfectly. I had the salmon miso. As it comes to fish it's easy to mess that up, but this dish was perfect! Also tried the salmon soup & surprised how delicious it was. My 11 year old had the grilled cheese and loved it with the tomato soup. It oozed with cheese.. she even ate the crust! The guacamole was so fresh.

We ventured to the side Cafe that has all the goodies... the banana & carrot cakes were delicious. I heard you need to go early to get their cookies..

The food is always amazing here and worth the wait. A cute venue with a calm atmosphere, great for nice dining and conversation.

They asked my mom if we were finished because they wanted to give our table to someone else. Didn't get a chance to order dessert before they basically told us to leave. Egg cheeseburger bussin though.

A nice relaxing place to enjoy a quiet meal. Good food and nice staff. Only reason I won’t give it 5 stars is: Dinning area is kind of dark and the prices are high.

I loved the food and the atmosphere! The Thai noodle bowl was very tasty.

High-quality, minimally-processed ingredients. Delicious meals and rich desserts. Best food served in Ames, in my opinion.
The restaurant itself also has a unique ambiance.
