Nice simple place for breakfast, lunch and just coffee. Most of the food is vegetarian. A lot of room, you won't be touching your neighbor's elbow here. And won't stay hungry even if you are in a budget. Thank you for being open at 7am! Interesting experience of trying vegan ( soy) bacon. Good friendly vibes. Recommended.

This is such a cute coffee shop/restaurant. The staff was friendly. The place was clean. They have a really cool area to buy a variety of coffee beans. The coffee was decent, I tried a banana bread latte.

Love Notes for TLC

I was passing through the area in search of vegan options and happened upon this lovely and old fashioned diner. I loved the relaxed and warm atmosphere full of returning patrons. I tried their delicious vegan chocolate chip banana pancakes but had a bit of a stomach upset afterwards. I didn’t ask if the butter used was vegan but I had presumed it was, I would make sure to double check prior to ordering. Their vegan cupcakes and other pastries looked delicious but I was watching my sugar intake so I was unable to sample them at this time. Although their freshly squeezed orange juice was a nice addition to my pancakes. (I did not prefer the taste of their tap water).

This was one of the most disappointing experiences I've ever had. The place was nice and our server was very lovely and helpful while we ordered. When our food arrived, however, things went south. We had 2 pancakes, a breakfast burrito, bacon, ham, a breakfast hash bowl, and applesauce, along with two coffees. All of our food was vegan and the coffees were quite delicious. The pancakes were doable but the vegan bacon and ham were so hard that it was impossible to chew. It was dry and hard to the point of being sharp. The breakfast hash bowl was flavorless and extremely undercooked. The carrots made an audible crunch noise, at one point I had to spit out an artichoke heart due to the amount of oil that filled my mouth as I bit into it. $46 on food that was less that mediocre to put it kindly. I don't recommend the food.

Check out vegan, vegetarian, and GF options if you have a group meeting w different dietary restrictions! Very friendly staff, open & welcoming seating area! Diverse menus, my daughter loves the baked items, and they sell good bread too.

Pros: All-vegetarian menu with multiple vegan options (including baked goods and multiple plant-milks!), cozy atmosphere without feeling cramped once actually seated, freshly squeezed orange juice, local art featured on walls, Black-owned small business.

Cons: When there's a line, it reaches the door quickly, and it's impossible to give others waiting 6 feet of social distance. It's easy to feel "rushed" when someone is standing right behind you. Wish the food menus were more easily visible from the back of the line (I pull up the website on my phone to get around this!)

Specific thoughts: I've been going for breakfast weekly for a couple weeks now (late June 2021), and each time there is *some* type of line, but it usually moves quickly. Plentiful seating has been available in the mornings. The regulars will chat in line with you, which helps the time pass quickly! You order at the counter and are given a plastic number to set at your table, so a staff member can bring your order out to you, and after your meal bus your own table by bringing the dishes to a designated spot in the middle of the café. Vegan items on the menu and in the baked goods case (see photo) are indicated with a "V" marker.

I got the Coffeehouse Hash, and my husband got the tofu scramble (which he covered in Valentina hot sauce before I could get a "before" picture). He's ordered it both times we've gone, so that's an endorsement from him! We also got one of the apple strudels to share, which was flaky and delicious! My husband is obsessed with their fresh orange juice.

Staff was courteous and helpful, even going so far as to bring me the flavoring syrup bottles so I could read the ingredients before I ordered. (London Fog is vegan-friendly if you choose a plant milk, by the way! I recommend oat milk for it.)

I love supporting a small, Black-owned business rather than a major chain, especially with such a strong plant-based menu! I wish they'd rely less on dairy and eggs for some items that are almost-vegan, but at least my spouse and I can each get different vegan options and actually have **choices**. I will also recommend taking my older parents here so they can get some heart-healthy options (vegan foods have no cholesterol). Will definitely be back so I can try the rest of the vegan menu items!

Coffee was Ok. Food was cold when it arrived. 4 tables with multiple diners received food before I did. Then I needed to ask about mine….another table served, then me. I ordered French toast. Honestly, quite disappointed….and, no, I did not say anything while I was there, as there was a huge line to order. Oh, and it was so cold I kept my coat on……and most others did too.

As someone who doesn’t go to Uptown much, but having lived in Bloomington for 25+ years, I cannot believe I just checked this place out last year (2022)! So many yummy items on the menu and fresh baked goods to choose from; not to mention the variety of teas & coffee available! I’ve always been a tea lover, & was very pleased with the teas I tried. The atmosphere is lovely, similar to a busy diner. With their food, drinks, & a friend with great conversation; this is a great place to relax & enjoy your day. Always great service from all the employees as well. Highly recommend checking it out!

Went with my kid and vegan parents after visiting the Children's Museum. We had a very good experience. My parents had plenty of vegan and gluten free options. My kid tried the oatmeal pancakes and didn't like them (different texture that regular flour). She enjoyed eating our food though and we enjoyed her pancakes. I had the breakfast burrito which was very good.

Can not say enough good about this place. Super welcoming environment and a great place to get some homework done. Affordable food and drink with friendly staff and lots of seating options. Absolutely stop by the coffeehouse
