Price on the menu is not the price....
It felt like the tax on my orders were absurdly high so i asked for a receipt. Turns out there is a "recommended service" automatically added to your order, and then tax on top of that. The receipt still has recommended gratuity, so this isn't a tip... also it can't be a tip if you HAVE to pay it... Also you don't even get the option to accept or decline a receipt... I had to affirmatively ask for it... also shady and clearly done to keep people oblivious to the charge.
Absolutely nothing in the store or the menu indicates this is the case. If you need to raise your prices fine... but just raise the price! Don't add some hidden fee to every bill.
It's a nice place but I'm not going back to support nonsense business practices like this.

My first time here. Having my dog groomed at PetCo directly across the street. These folks are throwin’ down up in here! Good coffee, great food, and friendly service! A great place to hunker down for a few hours.

Price is not as posted since now tipping gets added automatically onto the receipt? Recommended service fee? If anything just change the menu prices and add them onto the prices… I used to be able to choose what amount or if I wanted to tip but not anymore. Plus I’m not dining in… I came to the store and waited.

Such a great stop on my way to brunch. Conveniently located just outside the West exit of Columbia Heights metro. Healthy options including beetroot latte!

Creative coffee and baked good selection, vegan options, reasonably quiet atmosphere. I’ve been there twice and everything is good, service is friendly and efficient. The only thing keeping them from being five stars is the torn upholstery. Otherwise a great place!

When I move into a neighborhood, I really try to become a part of the community. My favorite thing to do is find coffee shops to try out and meet the staff. Before I moved to Columbia Heights, I visited a bunch of coffee shops.
Tynan is by far my favorite coffee shop in DC (and honestly, ever!), and holds an incredibly special place in my heart because it was the first place I dined indoors and sat in to work after being fully vaccinated. The staff are incredibly friendly (shoutout to John, Leti, and Maria!), their food is great (especially their power bagel, love bullfrog bagels and the BMT and grown up grilled cheese), and I love their homemade syrups for lattes.
The staff are so personal, I brought my parents to the coffee shop and introduced them to the owner. Its a lovely place, lovely vibe, favorite coffee, and super convenient since its right next to the west entrance of the Columbia Heights metro. Its my go-to local coffee shop, and I can't praise it or recommend it enough!

I like this place - but it’s not recommended service if it’s not optional. Adding 3$ to sandwich to go order is pretty questionable. Won’t be returning.

They have a lot of interesting drinks to try out if you're feeling adventurous, but even if you're down for the standard vibe this place does it well despite being in a somewhat hectic location.
Their sandwiches are top tier great, but most people looking for good food come here for their waffles.
I'm a coffee dude and the manager (owner?) answered everything I asked and was very helpful.

How do you "rate" Tynan? It's in its own category. Its own greater entity. Tynan provides. It nurtures. Enlightens. It exists as the midway station between life, and more life. To give it a number, to quantitfy it, would require Tynan to be comprehensible. It's bigger than that. It's greater than that. The only real truth I can say about Tynan is that it is there. Always.

Laptop-friendly neighborhood cafe. However, the bagel my breakfast sandwich was served on was dry and internet is limited so you need a code every hour. Otherwise friendly staff and a spacious place.
