A quaint, lively new cafe that compliments the strip on 14th st. amazingly. Their couscous bowl is fresh with such graceful and healthy ingredients. Also, the staff is so nice and welcoming! The perfect spot for a tasty coffee giving a cool cafe aesthetic. All for a good price

This was a cute and chill cafe. I went in and was immediately taken care of by the awesome barista named Beth. She had excellent service and was really kind. I’ve had chai lattes at many cafes but the one here was stunning! Floral and perfectly sweet. I ordered the veggie bagel and it was satisfying. 10/10. Stay awesome guys!!!

Very cute cafe on 14th Street NW. If you are Looking to grab a sweet or salty snack, a coffee or a tea, workspace or just lounge while reading a book with your puppy, this is the place. Did i mention covered outdoor or indoor sitting options? Go check it out :)

contender for cutest coffee shop in the area, great coffee and warm baristas. More syrup flavors than just the typical vanilla or caramel at most places, but Rue also has rose, lavender, etc. and adorable accompanying seasonal drinks. Variety of french pastries and all the ones i’ve tried are excellent—especially the macarons, citrus olive oil cake and madeleines. Personally I’ve never had anything from the “real food” menu here but if it’s anything like the coffee + pastries, it’s great.

Small cafe with inside and outside seating as well as wifi. Chai latte was VERY good. Olive oil and citrus cake was also tasty. Highly recommend this neighborhood cafe!

I love this cafe! I believe Rue cafe is an Ethiopian cafe, and both the food and the coffee are amazing. This is one of those places where when you try something you feel like you don’t want to get anything else because it is so good. I get the chicken salad sandwich and an Americano, and sometimes one of the pastries in their wide selection. My friends have told me that their sambusa is great but I haven’t been able to try it because they’re usually sold out due to the popularity. I have yet to get something bad here, and the service is great.

Overall, great food, great coffee, and also a great place to get your work done with minimal distractions. Also somehow they deliver all this at a much better price than places around it.

Opened the last Saturday of February 2022, Rue Cafe is an Ethiopian-owned coffee shop and cafe along 14th Street NW in Petworth. It's open every day from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. (except for Sundays when it opens at 8 a.m.). Here's my experience:

1) Coffee: They have a full coffee menu and brochures and information painted on the wall about the beans they source from the highlands of Ethiopian. I opted for a latte and it was creamy, smooth and well-brewed.

2) Food: They sell a variety of pastries, sandwiches, bowls and even avocado toast.

3) Space: It's small, but very warm. There's window seating and small tables with plenty of outlets. They have strong wifi, making it a great place to work from.

Great for chatting with friends or working remotely. More tables to seat one would hold more people but it's nice to have larger tables for groups at lunch.

Food/Drink quality for price: decent cappuccino, not the best I've had in DC.

Atmosphere: calm and relaxed. Good for working!

Noise level: not bad at all, I enjoyed the playlist

Lighting: natural light in front, kinda bright near counter

Staff: friendly!

Cleanliness: very clean

Bathroom (men's):

Seating: smaller, cozy feel means few tables inside. They are in high demand so get there early if you want one.

Outlets: 3 by the front, not sure about back of shop

Bike parking: on sidewalk

Very nice coffee shop with friendly and efficient barista. Seating in side is relaxed and comfortablr, there is some out door seating as well on wooden tables. . We enjoyed a brownie and a banana bread on the patio one breezy morning and warmed up with a cup of coffee. Will be returning for some of the sandwiches on the menu soon.

I live right next to Rue and grab coffee there at least once a week. The coffee and service are consistently impeccable. The vibes are great with tons of sunlight and a little outdoor patio area. Highly recommend if you need a delicious jolt of caffeine to start your day.
