Given the pandemic and restaurants trying to limit exposure to their staff using QR Coded menus, the quality of service has become difficult to judge. We stopped here for the first time for lunch during the week. This was one of the few restaurants open and it was rewarded with a reasonable level of attendance. The sandwiches were scrumptious and creative. We sat on the patio which had heaters. This restaurant is certainly well on its way to becoming The Famous (La Famosa).
Ok I totally hate the contactless ordering, I know pandemic but I feel like it takes away from me talking to the server about the food recommendations and human interaction. The food is a little pricey but overall it was worth it. Good for a date night with the mrs./girlfriend would definitely go back if we are in the area.
Had an incredible meal two weeks ago at this Puerto Rican joint located in the upscale area of Navy Yard in DC.
Prices are all relative to location (DC) and I completely understand why each of these dishes were couple of dollars more than what people would expect, but everything was absolutely delicious!
I ordered the Pineapple Sazerac, Ensalada de Mariscos, and the Chillo Frito (Whole Fried Red Snapper). When I visited San Juan a couple of years ago, Chillo Frito was easily my favorite dish and i'm glad I was able to get that dish again!
The Pineapple Sazerac packed a punch and the drink was infused with pineapple in three different ways, which I loved! There was a Puerto Rican pineapple rum, a pineapple infused sugar rim, and candied pineapple - all which balanced out the smokiness/spiciness of the Rye whiskey perfectly.
The ensalada de mariscos was very fresh and bright, and included octopus, shrimp, and scallops. It had cherry tomatoes, green olives, cilantro, small diced onion and sat in some sort of citrus marinade. Put it on top of the crispy, rich deep fried tostones that came with the dish for the perfect bite!.
The Red Snapper was the highlight of the meal! If you're not afraid to dive in hands first, and understand and appreciate the size of the dish [easily enough for 2 people....or one Amrith ;) ] then the $38 price tag for it means nothing - trust me, its definitely worth it. The fish came topped with pickled red onions & cilantro and came with a spicy cabbage slaw that was tangy, acidic, and packed good heat. Those things paired perfectly with the deep fried fish and was a truly amazing dish!
I have the mofongo in my crosshairs for when I make it back to Navy Yard down the road :)
It's okay. The fried fish is a $50 dollar experience in dry mouth. It needed chili peppers and basil but again this isn't a Thai restaurant so, you may enjoy it.
The steak was medium rare and salty. Which by itself isn't a bad thing. But when combined with rice, it was just okay.
So, if you're looking for an okay meal, this is it.
Splurged recently on lunch. Ordered take out and I picked up. The app's timing was accurate for pickup! Ordered pastelillos, the tripleta and flan. All were amazing. The pastelillos was juicy and crispy. The tripleta flavorful and flan was delicious. It was pricy for lunch but hey, it's not everyday and I'm happy to support local restaurants and the staff!
Wonderful, friendly service. They explained how things worked, got my food to me timely, and always had a smile. Clean, modern restaurant. Nice music and vibe. 10/10 would recommend. LOVED the stew!!! I can’t wait to try all the desserts I got!
5 stars! While the QR ordering and paying the right away feels like it’s taking the service touch away, it makes up with a fast and friendly service, food came out surprisingly fast and fresh! Mofongo was authentic Puerto Rican and tostones were perfect. Definitely coming back to this spot. Staff was constantly checking in and greeting you in and out.
My coworkers and I went here on a lazy Friday afternoon. Location is great and the service was good too. This is the type of restaurant that allows you to order and pay from your phone. The pork belly mofongo was absolutely delicious. I wish the beer wasn't so expensive but that's what you get in Navy Yard. I would definitely recommend and come back again.
This place is amazing. Went for a trip to DC and we came to this spot two times in a row and everything we had was absolutely delicious! They have great music, a great atmosphere and everyone was very friendly! I can’t emphasize how much I enjoyed the food and the drinks I ate. This place is a MUST!
Ordered from here on UberEats and was very pleased with the food. After reading reviews, I decided on the Tripleta, Pastelillos, and a Flan. I was not disappointed with any of the items but the Tripleta was the star -- the bread was fresh and crispy, the beef and pork was well seasoned and not over cooked, and the sweetness from the mayo ketchup perfectly balanced the savory flavors from the beef, pork, and onions. The Pastelillos were good but pretty heavy. And the flan was tasty but I wasn't a huge fan of the mango coulis topping -- it was a bit too tart for my pallette.
