The Rookery Cafe

I absolutely love the Rookery. As a local, I remember when they were a small lil cafe with calzones and coffee. They are a big deal now! Soooo many great food options. They never burn my coffee. Highly recommend - much much much better than Heritage.

I've been feeling like the quality is going downhill for the past year. Today I went in and had a bowl of the chicken corn chowder which used to be great. This bowl seemed to feature large slices of carrot while the corn and chicken were hard to locate (the flavor was good). The accompanying slice of bread? toast? was left on my plate. I'm not quite sure what it was supposed to be but it was cold and stale and unpleasantly chewy. I decided to have a cookie as I left and purchased a snickerdoodle that was underbaked in the center. It was too late to take it back when I discovered it, so it got tossed also. I continue to be less and less impressed with the food at the Rookery.

The food was great and service was quick...I recommend the Rookery for a quick lunch while on the go.

Fun little stop for lunch with friends. Great atmosphere and loves the communal table in the middle.

In town for work, thought I'd check out this spot, and I'm glad I did. Went two mornings in a row! Day one: Croque Madame; Day two: simple two eggs breakfast. Both meals were executed perfectly. I'm a black coffee guy, and they transfer French pressed coffee (Stumptown!) into an airpot. It was so good. Counter service was friendly and quick, and one of the employees wore an Aphex Twin shirt! Their decor is such to have you feel as if your in a photo flipbook. As all the images were flat against the walls (wheat glue??) I felt like I was part of it instead of that typical, pedestrian viewing of framed art. Highly recommend Rookery!

Went there on a recommendation from the Russian Shop. She said only locals went there so we knew we had to try it. The roasted red pepper soup was fantastic. The food was so good we're eating breakfast there tomorrow.

I recived a gift card to eat here. Even being free it was disappointing. We went for dinner I ordered a ramen bowl and my wife ordered the porridge. My ramen tasted fine however the chicken in it was mostly sinew and vein. I understand that this may be how traditional ramen is prepared, however that in a $3 ramen shop in an alley in Soel. This was a $20 bowl of soup. My wife's food was much the same, in fact she did not eat most of it. Just fat and cartalidge.

I ate here about 10 months ago and would have given it 5 stars. The service was excellent as was the food. I ate there tonight however, and both were terrible. I hope they turn it around but i will not be back. I felt like they thought i was off a cruise ship and would never be back but im a local. Oops

Ginger molasses, my favorite so far!

Finding parking to run in and get your food kinda stinks. But that's not their fault. I will continue to do it though because the food is MORE than worth it!!!
