Coffee Makes You Black

This place is awesome. Had the catfish, eggs, and grits and loved it. Came at a really busy time but the wait was completely worth it! Enjoyed the atmosphere as well with all the art hanging on the walls.

We were visiting from Lithopolis Oh. and the Fried chicken wings, waffles all the food was very good, mango tea was tasty, and we enjoyed the art. The staff was friendly and gave great service. Our family had a amazing time.

Hands down my favorite restaurant in Milwaukee! The art, the service, the jazz music in the background, the families and friends that frequent the place, and the chicken and waffles--all will bring you soul-deep happiness :). I've been coming here on average twice a month since moving to the city two years ago, and it's been great to get to know the staff, to have warm smiles welcome me and remember my order, and to share this gem with friends and family who come for a visit. The chicken and waffles are to die for! Don't take my word for it - try it out! :)

Food was hot and fresh. Eggs cooked just the way I like it . Requested my fish fried hard and it was perfectly juice ( smile). The staff is pleasant and the atmosphere was relaxing .

Great meeting place, food, and atmosphere. The chicken is divine and I love the use of space. Beautiful. The servers adorn the Pan-African flag on their aprons and the service is sufficient. A cultural gem in a much needed neighborhood. I hope the blueprint is modeled in other parts of Milwaukee.

Food is amazing, the tea is awesome, you must put your great conversation or lap top work that needs to be handled because there is a wait for your food order but trust it's worth the wait. The atmosphere is smooth they have a great music selection along with a great temperament of clientele.

I'm currently new to the area and this was my first taste of local food. Mrs. Thurman (the owner) was very nice and made it a point to come talk to myself and my company. The food was of great quality, and the service was very good. Definitely try the chicken and waffle!

Beautiful atmosphere, very friendly staff. The patrons are nice, too. The pictures that are hanging are original and prints of famous black people. I love that. The food is delicious. I recommend Coffee Makes you Black.

I had the chicken and waffles it tasted great.The waffle was fluffily and sweet
and the chicken crispy with the right amount of seasoning.. Also the beautiful art work made me feel just like home.

I just left this black owned restaurant the music was nice but the customer service was bad my family and I sat their for 1 hr and never got serve I ask to speak to the manger he honestly didn’t care his apology wasn’t genuine I believe everything was done on purpose but it’s all good :)
