I live in Bellingham so it's a bit of a drive away and it's been a bit since I've been here but sometimes I find myself wishing I could make up an excuse to stop by. Seriously good food, some of the best Italian I've had. Owner is cool, really loved the atmosphere.

Will be back again!

Everything I get here is good. I never spend this much on food but it's always worth it at Rifugio's.

Gem of a place in this sparsely crowded place. We were returning from Mt. Baker and were super hungry. There are not many good restaurants on the way except this. The owner was very welcoming and gave great suggestions about our order. Food came quite fast and hot. We couldn't ask for more. Everything was fresh and tasty. The place has very warm and cozy feel about it and is clean. Perfect for after a tiring day. Restroom was clean as a speck and has lot of parking space. Conveniently located. I felt the prices are a bit steep but portions are huge. So no complaints there either. Highly recommended!

On our way home after going to Mt. Baker we stopped at Refugio Country Italian Food. The food, atmosphere, and service was all top notch. I had lasagna, Diana had the meatloaf. Both were excellent. The owner, Richard, was out waiter. We had a great time there and will go again.

Overall, we found the food a little pricey for what it was. It was good, but portion sizing was small, and menu items quite limited.

We went in with our two small children and ended up feeling a bit rushed out the door in the end. Our kids were fairly well behaved (making some acceptable level of noise, but not screaming or wailing). While high chairs are offered, I'm not sure this is the clientele the business is looking for, or overly comfortable with. There is no kids menu or any sort of offering for kids--which is totally fine, but something I thought I should note if you're reading this and have kids you want to bring. The portion sizes were small and then we shared with our kids...so our meals were then even smaller, and for the pricing...we couldn't order more. It was $50+ for two meals, no wine or added beverages...

Please know, this is not a bad review. This is a lovely little place run by a father and son, and the food is tasty. You just need to know more about it before you go if you're brining any kids, or are on a budget. If you were going out for an adult evening, it would probably suit your occasion and be the right atmosphere. Look online at their menu ahead of time and check out what they have to offer.

On a road trip to Mt Baker we noticed this place and thought it was odd to see a fine dining restaurant out on this rural mountain highway. So glad we stopped. The decor was uniquely designed -a mix of rugged and elegant. The spaghetti and meatballs were great. My friend said the burger was awesome.

What an awesome and unexpected find this was. After a long day of hiking, we could not have found a better spot. Everything we ordered was excellent. The Lobster Gnocci and Homemade Lasagna were some of the best I’ve had. I will make a point to go again when back in the area. A+

Always delicious, everyone is friendly, I literally don’t think I’d ever have a complaint. It’s just good and totally a bucket list place if your traveling through the area

We chose to visit Rifugios for our 10th Anniversary dinner. The food was pretty good but the service was a little to be desired. We had to ask for water after watching all other customers receive theirs first off. We were talked out of an appetizer ( bread, oil, balsamic)that we definitely had room for. Bread is ala carte, it isn’t offered with your meal. We were pretty much ignored after we got our dinner plates. I wanted another drink but didn’t want to ask for something else, which isn’t my job as the customer. However the goat cheese bruschetta was AMAZING! Kale Caesar simply done but very good. My tuna was very nicley done (seared) but was served with fried jo jo style potatoes? My husbands favorite food is lasagna. Their lasagna is pretty good but served in a crock, which was fine but should’ve been offered a spoon on the side because eating out of a bowl with a fork doesn’t always work well. We had the cheesecake and shared a very yummy espresso for dessert. We appreciated the garden fresh produce used and the dining room was smartly done. The price point was pretty spot on. Not overpriced or under for the quality of food. Presentation was nice. The log sections between the bar and dining room was a great touch! We had heard about this place a few years ago and had been waiting for a chance to go. We drove 2 hours to have a special dinner here and had made a reservation. We enjoyed our meal but were not blown away by the service. Might be back if we are up that way to play in the forest but won’t make a special trip again. If you live around there though try it out! Get the bruschetta!
