Monica was so pleasant to my wife (Anna) and I, so helpful with planning a significant part of our wedding day, the only problem I had was with narrowing down flavors! We had many compliments from our wedding guests on the cake, not just the flavor, but also how great of a job she did decorating it. Very fairly priced (in hindsight I would have paid MORE) The person that gave her a 4 star review must not have seen the 5th star.

Decided on Cafe Brule because of the great reviews. I ordered the salmon which was touted on the menu as having an orange glaze and accompanied by steamed broccoli and brown rice with quinoa. I was also told by the waitress that it was very popular.
My dinner arrived, and the salmon was boiled to the point of being almost unrecognizable. Needless to say, it was significantly over cooked, and there was absolutely no glaze anywhere to be found. The rice was covered in an excessively salty broth of what I’m guessing was supposed to be a Demi-glacé. It was inedible. The broccoli was not steamed. It was charred on the ends as if it had been cooked in the oven from frozen.
I ordered the Stout Chocolate Cake for dessert. It was okay. It had a very light crumb, but very little chocolate flavor. The icing was very nice.
Service was meh. Lots of staff, they weren’t busy, and seemed as if only one or 2 waitresses were actually waiting tables.

Best breakfast in town! Always helpful and friendly staff and very reasonable prices for top notch quality and service. Fed myself and both my parents brunch for about $30 bucks. Can't beat that!

As an alumnus of USD, I am always excited to visit Vermillion to have some cake! This year we happened to be close enough, an hour away, that we could order my sons birthday cake from here. I found out that Monica is so busy with other endeavors that she has passed the birthday cake making on to an apprentice. I was a touch nervous that the quality may have changed. NOPE!
The cake was fantastic! She took my order via text message, which was extremely convenient, and got everything correct with the order. I ordered last minute and said I didn't need anything fancy. It was a cute cake with a dinosaur that my son loved and it was DELICIOUS. We had a vanilla champagne cake with extra butter cream frosting.
I compare all cakes to Monica's cakes and they have never even come close to the same quality and flavor!
Affordable Taxi
The menu had a great variety to offer. The service was friendly and the food arrived promptly. They have a great dessert menu! I will definitely make a trip to Vermillion to eat here again. If you are in the area I highly recommend this small town cafe. You won't regret it. You get my vote CAFE BRULE ***** See you again soon.

Wonderful food and dining experience. It was busy as heck being college parents weekend and a game day, but the service was super fast. Definitely would eat there again!

Great breakfast place, and they had nice coffee fancy drinks to choose from! I had the Café au lait. It's a great little place to go in town to meet with a friend. It was very cozy and inviting. Our server was attentive but didn't bother us; he let us sit and visit after we'd paid. It's a "no rush" kinda place :)

This is such a great place. Great atmosphere, employees, food and drinks. They have a very delicious lent special of spicy shrimp pizzet. The latte is amazing also. Highly recommended.
