I understand the concept, and I actually really enjoy it .
The food is cooked beyond perfection, it is just that the portions are smaller than average, just keep that in mind.
I also felt watched when signing my check

Phenomenal. Super fresh ingredients. Simple dishes with elevated flavors/textures. Great cocktail menu. Fantastic service. One of my top meals of 2022.

Inventive menu (tuna sausage! pasta dish = extra yum!). Lovely variety of tasty vegetable dishes (broccoli/cauliflower dish - way flavorful) Thank you, Evan, for attentive, friendly service. Delicious cocktails. Mine the mezcal/aperitif offering, while hubby went with a classic Manhattan done right. Noise level not as loud as so many, which is a good thing, by the way. Ask for a booth!

We dined here pre-pandemic and it was wonderful. Last night, the produce options were good, waiter had great energy, but then the the "oysters" entrees arrived. The small baked oysters were on the half shell and disguised by so many herbs that the oysters were lost. The "fried" oyster was undetectable in the deep frieded batter covered with dill pickles. The waiter informed the hostess of our disappointment who seemed surprised that we would give an honest opinion. We left shortly thereafter. We will not be back.

My expectation was higher than I experienced.
Hummus tasted too acidic, but the pita bread was great.
The squid ink pasta was the most disappointing dish because I was thinking the sauce is made with squid ink. Also, at a restaurant like this I was hoping the pasta to be al dente but it wasn't. The flavor is lack of character too.
The beef cheek dish is really good👍👍 so so so tender. The sauce and the side vegetables are a great combination with the cheek.

Fantastic dinner. Food and service were excellent. Felt like appropriate precautions were in place with distanced outdoor seating and mandatory masks, among other measures. Would recommend to others and return for another wonderful meal.

We have had The Grocery on our A list for food in Charleston for a while now and finally got a seat at the bar as they were booked and it was an unexpected stop in Charleston for us.
It was worth the wait. We split the chopped salad and the whole fish! The ultimate dinner for two.
The dressing on the salad hits all the right notes. The unexpected mvp of the dish were the Lima beans.
The fish was phenomenal. It was a Black Sea bass and literally fell off the bone. The presentation almost make you want to frame it.

High quality Southern / American fare with elements of Latin American and Asian cuisines worked in. They influence without overpowering for some unique combinations. Churros we're a surprise dessert option that did no disappoint.

It's expensive for what you get..... the food was good but more expensive than it needs to be! $15 usd for a soft shell crab sandwich but no side dish like fries or anything, just the sandwich. The wreck fish was good, but there was no side dish and only a small 4oz portion, so I was still hungry when we left!
