Food quality not food. Service not good. Coffee drinks way to sweet. Fried chicken dry and mediocre. Overall very overpriced for low quality food. Their only merit is their beautiful patio, that’s why I give them 2 stars instead of 1.

They have some really good outdoor patio space. They do really need to change the lighting inside the venue- it's painfully harsh, a lot of bright spotlights really close and shining right down on your face while you're waiting in line. It's actually so intensely lit that my friends and I ate outside in a rainstorm under an umbrella. It’s a great environment, fun and friendly. And their food does taste good.
It actually takes a really long time to get your food. Their kitchen is really small, yet they have a huge amount of seating. The kitchen size to costumer base ratio is off. They’re popular.
They don't have any reusable cutlery, cups, or sauce containers... instead they use composting plastic... which to me is the definition of green washing. It says, here, let me outsource the washing of some easy to wash dishes to some industrial farmers so they can grow corn with lots of roundup sprayed all over it in Indiana and then morph it into cups, and then ship them to me in Asheville so I can keep prices down and profits high in my restaurant in Asheville. It's just not ethical. Give me a real cup and a metal fork. I always bring a metal fork everywhere anyway, but to go to homegrown I guess I need to bring metal cups too... let's not be greenwashed into believing single use plastic is ok just because it's compostable. Remember the impact of growing mono crops of Monsanto corn.
I've eaten there twice now. Their sides are really good and diverse- lots of vegetables. Way better sides than say, Buxton. Their fried chicken is good. Their salads are actually pretty amazing and you can tell the salad is 100% local if you go to the farmers market and can identify what's in season.
They also need to get better bread; I don't even know what they're playing at with that. But they get stars for sourcing some local ingredients and being fast, affordable, and tasty.
For me this place is toggling between 3-4 stars because the single use dishes and PQ bread and bad lighting but 2 stars feels a little more authentic because farm to table eating is super valuable and they do source local meats and produce and have a great location. But I hope the establishment can upgrade these few things. I get they've only been open a moment and I want them to thrive. 🙂

Great food. Very fresh ingredients. Try both locations in Asheville. The chicken sandwich is a must. The cheese grits are sure to put a smile on your face as well. A coworker ordered the open face chicken biscuit with cheese and gravy. I was very impressed to say the least. That will be my next experience here.

This is a good place to eat. Their fried chicken is legendary. I had a hot ham and cheese sandwich this time. Last time it was chicken salad, and it was great as well. Not a large staff, so be prepared to wait awhile for your food.

Finally stopped by this fantastic restaurant for brunch! We did not want to wait as long as most places on Haywood Rd require on a Saturday morning. I am so glad we went to Homegrown West! The food was very reasonably priced, portions generous, and the food was so good! This is a counter service restaurant: order at the counter and your food is bought out to you at your table. Cant wait to check out the Lunch/Dinner options!

The pesto on avocado toast was delish. Atmosphere was great and we got to bring the pooch which is always an added bonus. Personality of staff however solid 1/5.

Service was amazing, but food was bad. My smoked pork was extremely greasy (there was a pool of oil when I was done with it) and spaghetti squash was also very oily and had an overwhelming taste of what I think could've been burnt garlic. Cole slaw was good.
My dad got the fried bone-in porkchop, which was very over-cooked and dry, but flavor was okay. Grit cake was very good.
Mom got the chicken pot pie and salad. Pot pie was very good but apples in the salad were old (gritty and soft).
Once again, the workers there were very nice, prices were good, and service was quick, but food was less than good.

Lovely breakfast/lunch and coffee spot, with great ambiance and lots of outdoor space. Great for trips down to the river. Loved our mountain scramble with English muffin, great oat milk latte.

The food at HomeGrown has been a staple for me the past 6 years. Their new West Asheville location is just as great. I have never been disappointed by the servings or the quality of the food. The employees are always friendly, and I’ve had a place to sit and eat when I’m patient on busy days. Picking up food is typically a breeze.

Happened to be in extraordinary company so it wouldn't have matter if I had eaten on the dark side of the Moon I would have been overly content...side note-food was great, staff welcoming!
