Considering this is the only local coffee shop in Independence, it is everything you want and need out of a coffee shop! This is my go-to work space close to home. Their blueberry scones are wonderful! It has an amazing atmosphere with upbeat music and lots of different types of sitting spaces.
This place is super spacious and comfortable; I think the space is shared with a church. It's very good for working: lots of outlets and good WiFi. The guy working was super friendly and I can tell he treated drink making like an art. The latte I had had quality espresso and was excellent all-around. I also had a tasty blueberry scone that was soft, moist, and had fresh blueberries. They have gf/df donuts and some other food items as well. Definitely pay Joy Coffee a visit if you're looking for a good coffee shop.
I have never seen a coffee shop as beautiful as this one. We're visiting from Minnesota and wanted to try somewhere local. Joy Coffee gets amazing reviews and I can understand why. The space is incredible. Beautifully decorated and welcoming. The staff are friendly and provide suggestions if you're unsure of what you'd like, like I was. I wish we had a place like this back home.
Joy Coffee is SO great. The place is fun, spacious and decorated well. The baristas are always super friendly and knowledgeable. Everything you can order is always so delicious! It is conveniently close to me and I'm so happy about that! Such a go to spot.
Absolutely love Joy Coffee! The craftsmanship in their coffee is hard to beat. It’s the House-made syrups and Mocha , for me! I will always pick a coffee shop, that cares about what goes in their coffee. By far my favorite in the area.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! They were so nice, my latte was beautiful & the ambiance was gorgeous. I am DF/GF & I tried the DF/GF vegan chocolate doughnut which was shockingly AHMAZINGG!! Don’t walk run to this shop!
Listen. I’m not gonna lie, coffee shops, to me have historically fallen into some category or specific type of coffee shop. You know where every one that goes there are alike... You know what I mean....where as soon as you walk in you immediately know what kind of shop it is. Being in shops that are heavily religious-oriented or affiliated is not uncommon, but it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. Seeing as Joy Coffee was attached to and seemingly part of the City House and Church of the Four Corners, I had my expectations as to what kind of shop this would be, and it wasn’t.
What I found was a very bright, open, unassuming and somewhat antiseptic environment relative to fitting in a traditional coffee shop genre. It felt more like a coffee shop at a college or office complex. I found ample seating, sufficient WiFi, a nice and somewhat fruity drip coffee, and one.... just one.... very tasty almond cookie. I appreciated the simple but ample menu. I liked the staff that was pleasant and supportive of your order. Prices were reasonable.
Customers here ran the gamut, so it felt a surprising melting pot of people of all ages just studying, working, and hanging out. I certainly didn’t feel out of the normal customer range. There was nothing specifically distracting, no loud music, or off-putting anything whatsoever. I got plenty of work done. I’ll be back for sure.
I’m not a coffee nerd, therefore I am not qualified or skilled enough to break down the coffee quality or the skill of the barista people. They were, however, quite patient with me when I put my credit card in backwards. So there’s that.
All in all, if you are in the area and want to meet someone for a coffee or a snack, it’s definitely worth a shot.
Amazing coffee, amazing treats. Staff was incredibly cordial and serves directly to your table. The atmosphere is very quiet, with extremely light music. Coffee was premium, with wonderful robust flavor. Will definitely come back in the future for a nice relaxing experience.

One of our favorite spots to conduct small business meetings. The coffee, pastries, and atmosphere are all great.
