The food was great! I got the 2 eggs with steak hamburger, hashbrowns and a choice of toast or pancake. I got the pancake and it was all very delicious, everything looked like it was made from scratch. Very tasty! The staff was friendly and it was a very chill and cozy atmosphere. I will definetly come back for breakfast next bwca trip!

Simple fare made well. Excellent service. Small Town cafe ambience. Fair pricing. Worth the effort to find parking while the road construction continues!

My eggs were done perfectly, pancake was great, 4 pieces of bacon. Very good prices. Cash only, yes really, cash only.

Great food, open VERY early (5am). The name means South of the Canadian border - it's not Mexican food, it's a standard American cafe with eggs, pancakes, omelets, ham, coffee, orange juice. Bring CASH, no credit cards. There's an ATM across the street at Holiday. The staff is quick and the food is quick, hot and tasty. They are open until 2pm and have lunch items as well, but I've always just had breakfast foods. My favorite is the scrambled eggs and ham.

Good, quick delicious food. Steady and consistent quality since I've been going there for 10+ years. A Grand Marais best kept.

Great food, great prices, and great service. I tried South of the Border for the first time right after Christmas and I went back for breakfast almost every day of our 10-day trip. I was never disappointed once. I'm never going back to that blue place again. Thank you!!!

Nice, no frills, small town cafe...open early for breakfast and lunch, but closed before dinner time...typical cafe menu, decent sized portions for the price...some spots allow glimpses of Lake Superior...friendly and fast service...many items can be prepared for takeout, no delivery...very small parking lot, but parking also available on the side street next door...don't be fooled by the name, it's not Mexican themed, it's "south" of the Canadian border!!! Been going there for years when I want a quick bite, or want to sip coffee and browse through the newspaper.

I'm giving it 5 stars because the service is outstanding, the food is simple and good and it has become a tradition to eat breakfast there every year on our way home from the Grand Portage Rendezvous. We often run to other re-enactors on their way home too. See you in August!!

Serving staff was quite unfriendly and rude. We sat down, got our menus and left due to the way we were treated. We entered with a cappuccino from a different establishment, as they do not offer that here, and the waitress very rudely demanded that I place my coffee on the seat next to me, and then asked for it to be thrown away. Nope - we then left.
