Basta Pizzeria Ristorante

Once again, Basta is fantastic. An "intern" waitress was our service for a table of four. We quickly "dismissed" her trainer, as this young woman had it right: knowledgable, personable with just the right amount of attention. We had a variety food, usual Basta high quality: beet salad, hanger steak, pizza and more. Martinis and good wine: reasonable. Can be busy and slightly noisy.

I have been bringing my family here for a while now, and we used to love it, but the new management has really taken this place down. This most recent time, I requested to add two people to our party, and the manager was extremely rude and not accommodating at all. He acted like we were not welcome there, and to make it worse, he treated the staff more poorly than his customers. Wish the old management was still there. We will not be going back.

An excellent dinner with surprise happy hour cocktails. The outdoor dining felt like a European café and our service was incredible. Thank you Alice for taking care of us and blessing us with your friendly service. You made our night special.

Food was 10/10, service was 1/10. We didn't have a single good interaction with the staff. They only stopped by our table once to check on us, never refilled our water, and didn't bring out our wine until we asked again for it. The food was really good and we had heard great things so it was disappointing that the service was so poor.

We honestly entered this restaurant because the smell from the sidewalk was intoxicating. I enjoyed the homemade pasta while my husband had a pizza. Both were fantastic. Our cocktails were well-made and our service was nice and efficient. The atmosphere with dark wood and nice lighting lent a great atmosphere for the night. Everything was affordable for the quality and quantity of food.

The Sausage & Orecchiette Pasta was amazing! I had never had that before. Service was excellent. Quickly seated. The food was prepared in a short amount of time and delicious. Highly recommend.

It was pretty good food and reasonable prices. The best I've done in Iowa City for this style of restaurant. I'm spoiled by very good food at the same price point around Chicago, thats why just 3 stars, but it's still very good.
