NEVER a bad cup of coffee and the limited food menu is very good (quiche lunch is amazing). Friendly neighborhood feels, great staff, and you’ll find the owners grinding right along with them most days.
Oh, and they ALWAYS have brewed DECAF!!

I have never had an unpleasant experience at your store until today. The 2 young women attending were clearly upset that they had to be there. And we had guests with us that remarked as such.

Love the coffee at this location! The artisan gifts for sale are also fun to peruse!

Stopped in here after a haircut next door to bust out some emails quick, and this coffee shop did not disappoint! I had never been here before, but I stop in coffee joints for meetings and to work quietly outside the office.
I wasn’t planning on eating but saw someone next to me with quiche that looked amazing and had to try it. It was sooooooo good. Best I’ve ever had. Admittedly, I’ve only had quiche at Panera, but this wasn’t even close to comparison.
Get some quiche at Grounds! So good!

Excellent coffee and enjoy the vibe here. I'd like to go more regularly as a work spot, but the wifi is too slow/inconsistent to get much done while I'm there.
Edit: This has improved a lot recently!

I called them to inquire as to whether there coffee was ethically sourced. The lady became defensive as if she had never heard of what this was. I mean take a quick Google search. She went to credentialize herself by mentioning she has being doing this for 30 years. I may be a little spoiled coming from a progressive city where folks want more than a good tasting coffee but the sourcing methods. I don't want the best tasting coffee if it comes from socially responsible source, pesticides, or is not fair trade among other things.

Always a clean and comfortable environment. I occasionally use it as a place for informal meetings.

This is one of the worst coffee shops in Des Moines because I go here too much. They take my money because the environment is addicting. The baristas are too nice to the customers, which makes the customers want to come back. There is a good mix of comfortable seating and tables with chairs. If you want to sit in front of the fire, you can. If you want to be productive and work at a table, then your office can be at Grounds. If you just want to catch up with an old friend, there's enough space where you're not disturbing the people next to you. Not to mention, the coffee is predictable, in a good way. You shouldn't come here though, because then you'll want to come back again and again.

We came in for coffee. While patiently waiting to be helped we got to listen to a very fun conversation between employees about people that got a restraining order. This was more important that acknowledging us. Finally we get helped with no apology or warm welcome. Go to the bathroom which looked dirty. Sat at our table and noticed the dirt and spider webbs under fixures. It hasn't been cleaned in what looks to be a long time, similar to the old drive-up window. So not only are they too busy talking to help but, too busy talking to clean. I wasn't planning to do a review but, I did notify the company. The response I got back from Jan was not great, once again no apology for our experience. Maybe this is why other locations have closed? Hopefully they will improve the cleanliness and their customer service. If this one closes, maybe we could get Smokey Row, Slow Down or one of the other coffee shops to come to Beaverdale.

I live 5 blocks away and every time I have come in they are either understaffed or just plain slow. I go on regular walks to the area and stop by often and have yet to try anything from their shop. This is sad because I live in the community and want to help, but with poor service it makes it hard to help. Today, I went in with my dad, and I wonder if the lady working if she was new. I feel she could have been more productive but it appeared as though she was more focused on the espresso being poured out, and engaging in conversation with the customer whose drink was being made, rather than utilizing her time and ask if someone just wanted a simple coffee while the espresso was being processed!? She may have been able to move the line along just a bit quicker. Hopefully this will change soon.
