Three scoops of ice cream are nowhere near as large as displayed in the window. A total ripoff for $10. No tiny samples either. I could not distinguish mango from passion fruit with similar color. Totally overrated and not worth it. Even third world countries give you sorbet that tastes just like the real fruit.
We were so excited to see this most anticipated cafe opened, so my husband & I figured to try it out. Before we were served a caucasian tourist cut and asked for samples of the gelatos. The server without hesitation obliged. He was taking his time trying to please them. We go like, its ok, thats PR. We then ordered drinks & cakes when its our turn to order and decided to try out their gelato and asked for a sample. The server was not helpful and said " Their boss won't let them" ( he just offered the caucasian couples diff takes of sample). On top of top the server forgot my husband's coffee, and when he served it, it was the wrong coffee, so the other server has to remake it. This experience was not a pleasant to say the least.
Great service and good coffee! I tried the marrocchino caldo which I’ve never seen anywhere else. Can’t wait to try their gelato, especially the stracciatella
Let's get a coffee at Ala Moana Center's newest coffee bar, illy Caffè, which is located on the mall level near Center Court. It's been months since I noticed the construction of this huge coffee stand with a small open-air seating area fronting Italian designer boutiques such as Dolce & Gabbana, Miu Miu, Gucci, and Prada. I stopped by yesterday morning and spoke with a young man who seemed to be setting up or testing the espresso machines, ensuring their cold storage appliances maintained correct storage temperatures, and ensuring their new stand had efficient plumbing and electrical power. The pastry and freezer displays weren't filled yet, and he wasn't serving coffee beverages yet. He said he anticipated opening on Thursday, February 17th at 8:00 AM.
Earlier this morning, while doing some housework, I noticed a review announcing this coffee stand's opening. I excitedly told my husband, who agreed to go out to Ala Moana Center after taking care of our errands. Sure, enough, we got to the illy Caffè stand after 3 PM, ordered a double-scoop gelato (salted caramel & Nutella-coffee) and an Americano to-go. We ordered our items to-go because, at the time, there weren't any available tables; however, the male barista suggested we could temporarily lean and eat along their bar counter.
The gelatos were beautifully displayed, had natural and intense flavors and a silkier and softer texture than ice cream. We'd probably make our way to try their other flavors, but for our first try, we ordered the MEDIUM 2-scoop cup with salted caramel and Nutella-coffee gelatos for $7.25.
We considered ordering two espressos, but it was already after 3:00 PM, and we didn't want to have heavy hits of caffeine so late in the afternoon that would keep us up past 1:00 AM. So, we opted to share a LARGE (20 oz) cup of caffè Americano. We know that illy's Arabica coffee beans would be more diluted with water in this coffee beverage, but we like to sleep well. The coffee was served in a sustainable and sturdy paper cup made for hot drinks with a matching sipper lid. Its aroma was intoxicating and, paired with the gelatos that we ordered, made for a great afternoon snack.
Service was friendly and welcoming. The female cashier seemed a bit unsure of herself but, I’m sure it’s just the first day nerves. However, the male baristas were professional, efficient and friendly.
We welcome another alternative to our coffee drinking at Ala Moana Center and look forward to returning for more.

Coffee mug wasn't full, not hot and no chocolate powder on top and expensive.

Love that I can depend on Illy Caffe for a legit cortado when I'm traveling.
