Had the pleasure of celebrating my brother's wedding at uma casa. My first time and I absolutely Loved it. The food was amazing and the staff was beyond friendly. For the entire evening I felt like I was back home enjoy a home cooked meal.

Travelled all the way across town on a Saturday evening at 6 pm for it to be closed. Update your hours on Google. I lived in Portugal for a couple years and always seek out Portuguese food when in a city that has it. This is poor management.

I can't say enough good things about the food here! I'd recommend the following: clams, octopus, pork and clams dish, seafood stew, and fried sea bass with "molho cru" - perfect mix of crispy and fresh. this is one of the few places you can order an entire fish skin head and all just how I love it! even when they served brunch I had a delicious well made francesinha - they should really add that to the menu again. I also miss the cheese platter with the Portuguese sausages

One of the best meals I've had this year:
Yellowfin tuna - 5 stars. Everything about this dish was perfect. Fresh tuna, proper texture, lighter flavors with a bit of depth from the dried olives. I'd order this again hands down. The only thing that disappointed me was that the description made me think there's be a quail egg on it. Everything is better with a quail egg! But really, fantastic dish.
Heirloom tomato salad - 4.5 stars. Some of the tomatoes were really ripe, one or two were just under, but otherwise this dish was also great. Really fresh, the cheese was slightly tangy, lots of textures.
Gambas Mozambique - 4.5 stars. These shrimp were PLUMP! Love the garlic, it may have been closer to raw, as it was pungent in a good way. Lots of flavor, a little kick, definitely get extra bread to sop up that sauce.
Pork shoulder - 3 stars. The first few bites were fantastic, the pork was tender and fell apart. As it went on though, this dish was INCREDIBLY salty. Like mouth puckering salty.
We had a few glasses of wine and they were ok, a little pricy and I wish they had tasted more unique or special. Between that and the saltiness of the pork I'm only giving this place 4 stars but I'd love to go back and try everything else on the menu!

Food was great. Service wasn't as attentive as I thought because they are short of people in my opinion. I went there mainly because of the custard tart. Everything was great up until the tart. It was a let down. The crust was soggy and the tart itself is cold. I thought it's freshly baked with crispy crust and it was not. It was far from the best I had elsewhere before. My suggestion is to avoid ordering it.

The place is nice and quite authentic Portuguese. Octopus very good but quite expensive considering the small portion. We were a party of six so we tried different mains, seafood risotto seemed the best, while piri piri chicken and braised beef not so much.

This was my first experience in a restaurant with Portuguese cuisine, although I am very familiar with Brazilian dining, both in SF and in Brazil. The two cuisines have a few similarities but are largely distinct.
Service: Although 3 of our party of 4 had arrived by our 6pm reservation, our 4th person, a physician who was attending to an emergency, had not arrived. The hostess said she would not seat us until our 4th guest was on site, although she finally relented after 10 minutes. The service by our waitress, however, was prompt and attentive.
Appetizers: All of us felt that the Rissois de Camarão (prawn turnovers) were rather bland and had no visible shrimp inside. We are quite familiar with the bolinhos de bacalhau served in Brazil. Uma casa serves a variant, Pasteis de Bacalhau. These were heavy on the potatoes, less so on the codfish, compared to the Brazilian variety.
Entrees: Two of my dinner companions ordered the Mariscada, kind of a cioppino. That dish was the best of the entrees. I ordered the peixe do dia (fish of the day), a halibut, which was good but nothing out of the ordinary. Our 4th guest ordered pork chops. They were served with small clams on the half-shell and he enjoyed them.
Desserts: The best was the small custard flan that two of my friends ordered. Forget the "cake with hardly any maracujá" (passionfruit). My friend had to ask the chef to bring more maracujá sauce. The chocolate tart was OK but nothing special.
Drinks: We enjoyed a very nice Vinho Verde, a perfect accompaniment to our meal. And, of course, being a Portuguese restaurant, we treated ourselves to some delightful after dinner portos and madeiras.

Very underwhelming--coming from someone who's been to Portugal twice, I would hardly call the food here authentic. If you've never had Portuguese food and would like to try, this might be an ok place to go if you have the $$ to spend on average food.
Appetizers were ok--I was actually a bit offended at the toasted sliced white bread, the least you could've done is get some sort of baguette or Portuguese rolls. The massa malagueta (hot pepper paste) was ok, but was served with your regular good ol' American potato chips???? When normally it's served with cheese & bread in Portugal. And there was pickled carrots & onions? Not like Portuguese cuisine at all.
Caldo verde (green soup with chorizo) was meh, a bit too salty and the chorizo was cooked in a way that was too soft, and tasted a bit strange, not like chorizo at all. I make this soup on a regular basis and I very much prefer my own version.
Entrees were a bit better. I got the arugula salad and my boyfriend who's Portuguese got the Frango churrasco (grilled chicken) which was pretty good as well.
Pasteis de Nata (Portuguese egg tart) was just ok; the crust was too thick and chewy, not crispy like the authentic ones.
Overall I suspect some of the food has been somewhat changed / catered to American taste buds--but why would you do that? Wouldn't recommend.

Uma Casa is by far the best addition to Noe Valley since we moved here. We came a few weeks ago the day after the opening and were blown away. We didn't think to make a reservation but we were able to snag one of the last spots at the communal table to begin our meal. Neither A nor I had ever had Portuguese food so we didn't really know what to expect. Our waitress was able to make us a few recommendations. We decided to split a snack, a small plate and a large plate. I also ordered a glass of Vinho Verde ($9) which was the perfect compliment to the meal.
