This place takes advantage of lack of other venues in this particular demographic. To begin with their coffee roast is barely half way decent at best but the over priced drinks jump the gun on current inflation and rapid devaluation of the dollar. To top it off it is the only place that I know of that adds an extra charge if you want cream on your coffee!!! They act friendly at first but change attitude quickly if you don’t drop whole dollar bills in the tip jar- what nerve!
I guess they don’t call it black heart for nothing.

Food is only alright considering the high price point. Plenty of outdoor seating. Though, parking is very limited.

Just driving home from shopping and saw this cute place with outdoor seating, so we stopped. What a delight! Fresh food, tasty and unique combinations for breakfast. Good coffee. Overall a hit! We will be back. Oh, friendly service too.

The turkey sandwich was awesome! I did not get a charcoal latte which sounds like their signature drink. It looked interesting next time I'll pick one up. I like this place I'll be back!

Way too expensive for the quality and the quantity. They have all the fancy menu items to attract. I wonder how so many people gave a great reviews. I just ordered an Avacado toast, just couple of regular sized bread toasts and added the avacado paste(cold) on the top with some veggies topping, no salt or spices, charged 11 bucks ? that's not acceptable. I could make way better one at home. It's big hype cafe.

Stopped by for breakfast today. Bought 4 sandwiches and 3 coffee drinks. The food was prepared very fast in 5 to 10 min and everything more than exceeded expectations! Super nice staff and great addition to the neighborhood. Love the street art too, black heart definitely fills the void of a well designed stop to fill your food and caffeine needs.

An excellent spot in Van Nuys to get coffee/tea and food. Very nicely laid out and furnished. There's a lovely calm vibe that begins with the friendly staff and low key music. So much nicer than the ubiquitous chain joints.

Cute little coffee shop! Great food and drip coffee. Wish they had vegan cheese for their items to make them vegan (referring to the Peony item) but love the place! They do have a Just Egg item - so there is that!
