I love this cafe! Their pandan latte & black sesame latte are delicious (but on the sweeter side). Definitely recommend the coffee carnitas sandwich, breakfast sandwich and the scones with different butters.

I frequent this place during the week for mental breaks. Today was able to take the family. I had found something in my food of course a total accident. They went above and beyond. As if things were gonna be different, this place will continue to get my support!! The food is just an added bonus to the excellent vibe and customer service. Make the stop! The scones are incredible !

Everyone is very lovely at Public Square and the employees are great. I do wish it took less time to get my order. I chose to come here only when I know I have some wiggle room on my time. That said, it does set an atmosphere that causes me to slow down a bit in life and for that I'm grateful.

We had a lovely morning at Public Square! The iced vanilla latte was rich and not too sweet. The hot pandan latte with oat milk was nutty and smooth with a touch of sweetness. The carnitas sandwich was so flavorful and the biscuits and gravy were perfect for the cozy rainy vibes. We finished the day with a scone paired with the peanut butter ube butter, cinnamon butter and honey and fig butter, all of which were delightful!

My mom and I both have favorite beverages whenever we come here! I love their "The Roots" tea blend (turmeric & gingery spicy yumminess) and their "So Fresh & So Green" tea blend (green tea with a refreshing hint of mint, floating on a lovely jasmine aroma.) When I want coffee, I also love their pandan latte (which tastes like if vanilla, hazelnut and coconut joined forces!) 😋
My mom's favorite is their Chaga latte (which is a sugar-free mocha made with monkfruit and Chaga mushrooms, which is an adaptogen-rich superfood that is good for your brain, memory, and nerve health.) For something made without coffee or sugar, the mushrooms make it taste suspiciously and DELICIOUSLY like smooth, chocolatey coffee, but it doesn't give my mom or me caffeine jitters or a sugar crash. She lives with ADHD, which means caffeine interacts with her... Weirdly... At times. But she loves this latte because it doesn't have those side effects! Yay!
I have tried their in-house-made biscuits and maple butter, and combination was scrumptious!
My favorite lunch, though, is their seasonal grilled cheese and tomato bisque combo.
My mom's favorite food item is their beet hummus and avocado toast (it's hummus made a lovely magenta color with beets.)
We've returned repeatedly and enjoyed everything we've tried so much that we've brought friends here just to chill with some tasty drinks, and we 120% recommend this place to everyone looking for a great café in La Mesa!

I was so disappointed this time. I asked for my tea to be a little stronger. The only option was to pay for two teas in one cup. They wouldn't steep it a little longer or allow me to take it to go and strain at home. I was treated so rudely by a supervisor/manager . I decided it wasn't worth it. I wasn't trying to be difficult I just remember the green tea was weak last time I visiting.

Loved the scone and butter flight. Also got the sesame latte and chocolate chip cookie which were both delicious. Liked the outdoor seating with separated spaces. Friendly service.

This place is one of my favorite places to have lunch or just have a cup of coffee or tea.

Issa Thyme was lovely. Thank you, Noah, for going light on sweetness. Perfect! OH, and if you haven't tried the Drench Toast yet... you are missing something yummy!

I love everything about coffee houses...the coffee and eats, the music and art/decor, and the hum of the espresso machine. And Public Square Coffee House is a gem and worth a visit to La Mesa Village.
However, the reason for my 3-star review is that they offer a cash discount and the barista who rang me up had no idea how to calculate or give me correct change. I realize that in today's world dealing with cash payments is rare, but a skill that we all should master. So, managers and owners of Public Square please provide your employees with some cash training (e.g. when a tab is $11.07 and you receive $20.07, what is the correct change to give the customer?).
