By far my favorite coffee shop in town. Kyle brings the most flavorful and original roasts to town, completely unlike any of the other cafes.
Fun fact: I've run into baristas from other cafes ordering drinks at JPH!

Cozy, and artsy coffee house that is in a quiet neighborhood a short walk from downtown. Great coffee and food options. A nice coffee shop for visiting with friends, doing solo work on a laptop or reading.

Johnson Public House (JPH) is the paragon of Madison's cafés. The baristas at JPH serve espresso with more care than most other barista's I've encountered in the Madison area; and they do so with good reason: the espresso is awesome. The bouquet of notes, depending on the roast of espresso you're served, are dense with flavor.
Since the espresso at JPH is tasty it provides an avenue for other smile-bringing drinks like a cortado, latte, or whatever combination of dairy and espresso earns your comfort.
Similarly, JPH has also consistently served the most rewarding pour-overs in the Madison area. They also boast something unique that cannot be found at many cafés: you can choose how your pour-over is done (V-60, French Press or Chemex).
Lastly, JPH serves some tasty food - especially their homemade granola, yogurt & fruit bowl.
Oh and I want to mention that the staff is radiant with friendliness.
So i think it's fair to say that I would recommend anybody who likes coffee (and especially those who like espresso) to visit JPH.

Beer, wine, tea. Not too much seating and it seems like people just claim a spot and stay all day. That's not really the fault of the place but they could discourage that when it's busy. It also smells a little funky.

Great food and fast service!

Serves the best coffee in madison. Kim-kin coffee is the best in the area hands down

Breakfast sandwich took 30 minutes, and it wasn't crowded at all. The baristas weren't too friendly either. It was a pretty good breakfast sandwich though, and the space is very cool.

My hipster heart loved it. One of the best places in town to get coffee.

Coffee was okay, no foam on cortado or cappuccino. Toast was burnt.
Donuts will make me want to come back to this place every day for the rest of my life.

The coffee and food are excellent, staff are friendly and skilled, and it's a great place to go get a couple hours of work done. I'd describe the vibe as "friendly hipster."
