I was very excited to explore Taylor Books for the first time yesterday. In fact, since moving to Charleston 6 months ago, it was the store I was most looking forward to supporting. Sadly, I had a terrible experience yesterday and my husband and I felt very unwelcome and targeted. It was a busy Saturday afternoon, and the store was crowded. However, one of the employees made it a point to only follow us around and to only ask us if we “needed any help”. I don’t think it was any coincidence that we were the only dark haired, darker skinned customers in the store. I’m not one to look for problems when there are none, but that employee’s not-so-subtle demeanor was just too much, and it truly broke my heart. We felt so uncomfortable and unwelcome, and unfortunately, will not be going back — until they stop being suspicious of customers that aren’t white.

I love the selection of coffee that they have in Taylor Books. Even during the seasonal months, they routinely change out their specialty drinks to fit the mood of the season. The baristas are super nice. The coffee shop itself has a great atmosphere and the bookstore always has local events going on. Come check them out!

Cute niche book store! I stumbled across it my first day walking Capitol Street, and had to come back the next day to sit and enjoy the environment. I had a delicious gingerbread latte with almond milk and used the wifi to get some work done. I also didn't realize they have an art section to the left. Overall, I loved how nice and cozy this place felt.

Greetings Tour

A very warm and welcoming bookstore where we came every morning for coffee while we painted the Greetings from Charleston mural a block away. We filled up our rewards card but didn’t get a chance to use it!

Hey!

I spent 2 days working from the coffee shop/bookshop while traveling! I just LOVE the place.
The location is really good, the staff is super friendly and helpful, my oat milk cappuccino was the perfect temperature and tasty.
The vibe, in general, is positive and open-minded!
Please stop by for a coffee or grab-and-go snack.

p.s. If you ever consider adding some healthy, no added sugar, and fewer calories sweets, please let me know. I’ll be happy to partner.

Good luck 🤍

Quite an interesting place. They are always friendly and willing to assist you. Their coffee and food is great. Old fashioned hospitality. If you haven't been there then you need to put it on your list. You won't be disappointed.

Visiting Charleston after 5+ years away. Taylor's was just how I remembered, but better! Great kids area, my son and I browsed and played with blocks for a little while, he thought it was magical in there. Must visit!

Taylor Books was amazing because not only do they have books, they have a wonderful cozy cafe inside! The coffee is fantastic and the desserts were out of this world good, especially the Tiramisu!!

Best coffee shop I've been to in the area. It's hard to find a good macchiato, and they nailed theirs. I'll be back!

I absolutely love this place, it has been a go to for me for the last several years… but the furry friends are getting out of hand. They need to exterminate or just set more traps.. I know it’s an old building but this is definitely a deterrent.
