I stopped here for a quick breakfast on my way through town, and ended up getting the veggie quiche, a pain-au-chocolat, and a latte. Everything was absolutely delicious! The quiche was soft-cooked and creamy, the pain-au-chocolat was buttery and flaky with a nice dark chocolate, and the latte was great! It was a on the pricier side for bakeries, but so so good! Would definitely recommend

This restaurant/bakery is amazing. Their food is so delicious! The staff is great. The dining room is small but cute! Little side note, if you order the eggs they are runny! Not slightly like they describe them to be but still amazing! I've been twice in one day that's how great their food/staff is!

Always a favorite in Charlottesville. They have delicious brunch and amazing bread!

Excellent pastries and good coffee (seems a little over-roasted). The service is fast and friendly. Plenty of smiles from the staff, including the back of the house.
I look forward to mornings when I'm able to stop by and enjoy their baked goods. I have yet to try their bread, but it looks amazing.
To the owners and staff, well done!

I don’t profess to be a jack of all trades. But with things French, I’ve been around long enough to know a thing or two. I visited Mariebette on the recommendation of a local hotel concierge. It would be my first and last visit. Staff are rude beyond belief. Walk up to the door, and instead of a smile, the customer is greeted with a barrage of strange demands to “mask up,” replete with moralizing flyers taped ship-shod to the front door. (How pathetic that, what’s more, they still refuse to open their dining room.) Enter the shop and it’s only downhill from there. Surly, insolent employees bark at the customer as he stands in line and observes the sycophantic behavior of other patrons—apparently necessary in order to be served here. Upon finally receiving my pastry—a simple pain au chocolat—I discovered it to be burnt and soaked in an utterly unappetizing egg wash. The other items on display didn’t look much better. Folks, this is place is low-rent. I’ve had better at a rural highway outpost in Kansas. Don’t waste your time or money at this gimmick.

This place is the real deal! Pastries are excellent and authentic, service is excellent and it is one of the few places that serves Kouign Aman and gets it correct! If you've never had it, don;t miss a chance to try it! Their coffees are superb as well. Prices are not cheap but they're not astronomical either. In any case, it has always been money well spent. We drive an hour and a half to induge ourselves in their fare.

So the baked goods are basically to die for. I know the bakery staff and they’re great at what they do. If you can stand ok-to-bordering-on-rude service, then by all means go get your fix. I’m rating two stars because the staff at the restaurant (NOT the bakery on Preston) was pretty rude. They looked at me like I was crazy when I said I was looking for someone in the bakery, and rather than simply explain that the bakery is not on site, the young woman proceeded to ask all other workers if they knew my friend by saying “so and so do you know so and so in the bakery? I’ve never heard of him. I don’t think I know who that is”. It was as if she wanted me to feel embarrassed- not a good business strategy. I, like other reviewers, also felt rushed to order and get out. Needless to say, I did not tip. I’m very disappointed. I was looking forward to stopping by here over the holidays. I’m definitely going to rethink that.

Easily the best European inspired pastries in Charlottesville, what more do you need? Banana sourdough bread is something I've never seen before and is really good. Their T-shirts are hilarious.

Fantastic little place- great customer service. My sister and I split the French toast and it was delicious -not too sweet and none of the flavors were overpowering. Some of the best coffee I've had in awhile.
