The Blockhouse

My family took me to the Blockhouse for Mother's Day. Wow it was packed, and I can totally understand why- the food is always amazing! Today was no exception. We expected a wait, as the staff always takes care to make sure every order is high quality. We found plenty of activities in the outdoor area to occupy the kids and the waitstaff was on top of making sure we had drinks and were kept in-the-loop on the status of our order. Everyone was super friendly and apologetic for the delay, but we didnt mind as we could plainly see the reason for it. We were happy to receive our order fresh, hot and delicious! I am super impressed at how the restaurant staff worked together to manage today's holiday rush. Thank you Blockhouse for a wonderful Mother's Day treat! Special shout-out to Turk, the best barista ever ❤

Went here to eat this morning (Saturday) and it was a little busy when we arrived.
Must wait outside for customers to clear the ordering and payment counter near entrance due to social distancing.
Menu is a little more upscale for this part of the county but very glad to see it given the other choices around.
Menu choices limited but satisfy various tastes.
I had the shrimp and grits. Absolutely delicious!! Shrimp grilled and tasty. Grits very creamy. (I asked for non-cheesy grits). Sauce flavorful without being spicy and complemented the plate very well. Fried green tomato slice was delicious and I wish plate came with 2slices. Poached egg atop the plate was good and fresh.
For breakfast “dessert” I had a cronut which they warmed before serving. Yummy!!
Husband (mine) had the breakfast sandwich and a waffle. He said the waffle was very tasty. He said he didn’t care for the sausage but he’s not accustomed to turkey sausage and had a different taste expectation.
Prices a little high but to get this kind of menu and food you would have to drive at least 20 miles away from this area and still pay this much.
Glad this kind of place is here and hope it is very successful so it stays here.

It was very warm and friendly. They food was delicious. Serving size was more then adequate. Very clean, the bakery goods were also delicious.

You come here for great food, and friendly faces. Sit outside on a nice day.

Ordered a deluxe omelet on Sunday morning. Server never asked me if I needed anything. Just delivered my omelette on the other side of where I was sitting. Omelette ended out to be a plain cheese omelette. I wasn't able to get anyone's attention to let them know it was the wrong omelette. Spent quite some money on a very cold cheese omelette and poor service. Won't be going back there.

Quality. The absolute best coffee in the Greater San Antonio area. But don’t take my word for
It. Take the time...make the drive...have Turk make a latte...sit...sip...Quality.
Next. Order something for brunch. Yup, the food is excellent. Take a bite and realize that you are in an atmosphere of excellence. Swallow.
Sip the latte again...Quality and excellence now join and your only response will be a deep sigh of relieving joy.
So, if you are one of those who search for quality, excellence and joy in dining and coffee the Blockhouse is your choice.

This restaurant is quite homely. Really friendly staff, and the food is pretty good. However, expect to pay because it's kinda pricy, in my opinion.

The best waffle I’ve ever had hands down. My friend had the eggs Benedict, the hollandaise sauce was so creamy and everything was full of flavor. You have to get the fried green tomatoes, perfect crispy batter and came with pimento cheese sauce. The staff was super friendly and definitely keeping up with the covid guidelines. Next time we come to San Antonio for a trip I am absolutely stopping here again!

OH MY GOSH! Was this place amazing! I got the BL Fried Green T sandwich and I hate tomatoes. But this place mite have actually got me into them. They put so much bacon on my sandwich that I could only eat half of it!
I also got my daughter a 5 dollar child's plate. Mac n Cheese homemade chips and a kool-aid she ate every bite and she usally picky about her mac n cheese. The bowl was giant by the way.

Will be going all the time now. Amazing food that made my 2020 a little better!

Hidden gem. The chicken and waffles are my kryptonite. For a small fast casual restaurant this place delivers on hospitality and food done right. From scratch. Craveable. Gourmet, even. This place is a weekly go to. We love it.
