Here are my thoughts on the Blockhouse. I'll give the criticism first.
1) More help needed to take orders at register or better yet take the orders at the tables.
2) Wait staff are super polite but not attentive enough. Too busy with silverware or bussing tables. Need to realize customers need refills and boxes.
3) Chicken Fried steak. Other than a little salt needed 5/5.
4) Order of potatoes...perfection 5/5
5) Eggs were fluffy 5/5
6) Sweet tea. Some of the best Southern tea I've tasted. 5/5
7) Fruit tart. It tasted like it danced across my tongue. The thin light crispy airy flavors of the crust. The delicious cream on top that played nicely with the strawberries and blueberries. Best tart I've ever had 5/5.
8) Presentation 5/5
9) Pricing. I keep reading the reviews on prices other than the credit card fee for inflation that should not be there. I do not find the prices to be higher than other places. The portion of food I received was huge for the price.

We had the spicy chicken sandwich which was delicious and has just the right amount of spice to it. The Cubano which was ok. French toast and eggs that was delicious! We also order the avocado stuffed onion rings that were amazing!! Highly recommend this place.

Staff was incredibly nice. Food was great and very fresh. Truly enjoyed our first trip here. Have got to come back to try more of the menu.

A hidden gem restaurant/coffee shop in St. Hedwig. Definitely worth the drive to experience the amazing food, a correctly sized cappuccino (also amazing), and really friendly staff. Food came out fast and hot. The restaurant's overall vibe had both a downtown upscale-ness without taking away from the small town feels.

Amazing food and atmosphere. Excellent country diner with a twist! This restaurant has a nice laid-back atmosphere with a modern feel. Wide choice of breakfast and lunch items. Or just run in for a cappuccino or fresh drip! Tasty pastries and more. I basically can't talk enough about it. If your in the area it is a must! If your further away it's worth the drive!

Was hoping for a pleasant and tasty breakfast experience.
The drinks were over flavored and the hot drink was not hot. The waffles were salty and the sausage gravy tasted like fish. The food was lukewarm to cool when brought out to us. Disappointing because it looked like it was going to taste great.
The staff left us standing for several minutes before taking our order, and offered no friendliness incoming or departing.
One star for the speed our food was served, and the one girl who did actually seem polite when serving us.

Not sure what's been happening in the kitchen but my past 2-3 visits have been disappointing with food quality. Our BLT today had burnt toast, and had a heavy taste of old oil that overpowered even the bacon. The Chicken Fried Stake sandwich was super bland, like no seasonig which couldn't be saved by the tasty gravy.. still digging on their coffee, but about done trying luck on the food.

My wife and I stopped by on our way back to Houston. Everything we had was homemade and amazing. My wife had the breakfast and I had a grilled chicken sandwich that was a special. This was a welcome stop after all of the tourist traps on the riverwalk. Please take a slight detour to visit.

Wednesday morning around 10am. I see a bunch of cars in parking lot, encouraging. Walk in and order at the counter and pay also. Pick your own place to sit, outside too. Promptly greeted with a bottle of water and glass with ice. Ordered biscuits and gravy and a double espresso. Biscuits and gravy arrive swiftly. Espresso immediately afterward. Hot espresso and flavorful with nice crema . The biscuits and gravy were hot and covered with bacon pieces. Biscuits were soft and easy to break into with a fork. Lots of flavor. Just right, not too salty, not greasy either. Quiet unassuming place. I really like it here. Of course it is not crowded as they close at 11am, but that's what attracts me to this breakfast find. Plus it's only about 10 minutes from the house. I will come back again to try a different breakfast. Check it out. I think you will like it.
UPDATE: Have returned and ordered the Cubano sandwich, excellent !!
Flavor and build are all great! Also the homemade potato chips are awesome! Ordered the Mac and cheese too, that was great as well. I will be coming here at least once a week.

The got the taste, they just do, simple plates that taste beautifully good. And the coffee, that kind of awesome drink hits and they know how to brew it.
I have tried different coffee in the area and no one gets what they offer.
There are a few crew members that dominate the art of espresso :) amazing place, they are kind and awesome
