Great stop for out-of-towners. Loved the chicken salad and the zucchini bread. Staff was super nice! Hope to come back sometime.

Love love love their chicken salad and zucchini bread yummy!
I have been coming here for years and never has their quality dropped not one single time. We moved here in 1997 and it has been just as good day one as to when I was here just a few days ago!! You could not ever go wrong having a lunch here!

Chicken salad sandwich was large and tasteful.
My wife had a salad however there was a hair in the middle of it. To compensate we were not charged fifty cents for cream cheese.
The zucchini bread is nice and the most memorable food in the menu.
Service was lacking as we had to request drink refills each time versus the wait staff recognizing empty glasses.
The establishment was fairly busy and everyone was nice. We will go back again.
This can be a 5 star restaurant with some fine tuning. More staff training is necessary.

Service was good, look and atmosphere we're also good. The food was a little lacking, minimal menu which was fine, but mediocre and poorly executed . I get it, it's Abilene, and the food scene is really lacking. From the can potato sticks, over boiled egg(greenish center), famous zucchini bread that tasted more like banana bread, boring salads etc. If you're looking for an average lunch, this is your spot!

Service was swift and friendly. The traditional homey atmosphere is the perfect representation of the southern hospitality displayed by staff. The food was delicious! Personally, I had the Wisconsin Cheese (Soup of the Day) and a Roast Beef Sandwich with Green Chili. My thirst was continually quenched, thanks to our attentive server, Sandra. The Chocolate Decadence dessert is so rich, you'll want to vanilla ice cream as an add-on. I highly recommend stopping by Hickory Street Cafe for a scrumptious experience.

Awesome, quaint little restaurant in an older house. They are known for their chicken salad and pumpkin bread, both of which are really good, but we also had the quiche, which was amazing. Staff is very accommodating and friendly. A great place for a lunch encounter.
Honest review
Why is the sandwich so tiny for the price? It literally fits in my palm. It’s like what I would give my son in grade school. My sandwich was soggy too. They put the wrong cheese even though I paid extra.

Have ordered lunch a couple of times. The sandwiches I've tried are very good. Also tried a couple of salads. Also very good. Amount of food you get definitely fills you up. Will be enjoying their food again.

Very, very good. Enjoyed the chicken salad sandwich, the pasta and the potato sticks. Good, friendly service at a quaint downtown restaurant.

Lots of reviews here saying pretty much the same thing, and all apparently accurate from our lunch stop. We had their self-described 'world famous chicken sandwich' and it was great, although no self-respecting Frenchman would accept that the bread was a 'croissant'. But it was nice bread and great filling, with the chicken salad added to by the unusual inclusion of some grapes. Obviously an old house with multiple rooms; all pleasantly decorated. If you're looking for an easy lunch in Abilene as a tourist this makes a great stop.
