I was introduced to Civilization by some cycling friends, and it has become one of my favorite coffee places in downtown Cleveland. It is small with an old fashioned feel inside, and everything about it is excellent, from the coffees to the pastries to the breakfast food options. My go-to while there is a cafe americano and a ham and cheese croissant. Check them out - you will not be disappointed!
Wonderful coffee shop in Tremont. Wonderful Danish Delicacies Coffee Wonderful Customer Service Wonderful Atmosphere Outdoor Seating. I enjoyed an apple walnut muffin.
I've been coming here for several years. I normally get the pre-made mocha iced coffee and sometimes a Danish.
I forgot lunch and bought a turkey sandwich on a croissant, and not only was it the best lunchmeat sandwich I ever had. It is huge! I saved the other half for dinner
Such a lovely coffee spot! Really warm & inviting. So happy to see a “masks encouraged” sign & to see store team members wearing masks :)
Longer anecdotes that represents the vibe:
Randomly in the U.K. there is a popular coffee drink called flat white that has elicited a few quizzical looks on our journey. The barista was kind enough to explain that it’s referred to as an espresso au lait! Was really grateful for their help
am moving to California from the U.K. and driving across the states w my two dogs and English husband. His first time driving across the states. Has been disheartening to see so many trump signs and this little oasis was really the tonic we needed
When my Greek immigrant family stepped off the boat from Lady Liberty my Grandmother chose Cleveland, Tremont to be exact. Perhaps she had a prescription filled here when it was a pharmacy. Today it is a cozy & welcoming cafe, with accommodating staff.
The pumpkin spice latte and lemon square were phenomenal. I do wish the breakfast sandwich was a bit heartier and had different bread options - it was only available on wheat bread, I would have preferred a bagel or croissant. I'd go back for coffee and pastries though.
It was a nice spot to work for about an hour one morning. The coffee was good and they had a decent selection of pastries. Service was fast and polite. The only complaint was it was a little cold in the building (in the summer). But that would not stop me from going back.

Nice spot; caught up with a friend here today over coffee. A little bit dark; need to bring in more sunlight ☀️
