An idyllic coffee shop: dark hard woods, close-knit seating, all the fixings of uncontrived authenticity. Good coffee drinks and excellent selection of foods and pastries. Location is central to some of the best things about Tremont area. Clearly a spot for good conversations and community.
We stayed nearby during our recent stay in Cleveland. It was in a convenient walking distance location. Our first visit, the waitress wasn't overly friendly. We literally had stepped foot inside for a second when she asked what we wanted, but not in a kind, friendly manner. Our other waitress was great though. The pastries were just ok, as was the coffee. Seems like Americans have cream or whole milk only (outside of almond milk etc), no 1%, 2% options. We drink our coffee with milk so we asked for a splash. Our cups ended up being a bit more than 1/3 milk, couldn't even taste the coffee. (Note, we found the same with other shops during our US visits. Also, US do not know how to make a good cup of "sweet" tea).
I love trying new coffee shops, but Civilization makes me want to settle down and become a regular. It doesn't get better than a large coffee of the day (they're all good) and a stuffed croissant bigger than your head (I also did the research for you on this one and can confirm that all the flavor options are amazing). The atmosphere is warm and cozy, as are the baristas. Please go support this business!!!
Wow, a must-visit spot. Historical and cozy vibe, plenty of food and bakery options- note their hot deli menu. Obviously coffee options. Patio out front in a relaxing quiet neighborhood. If you purchase a bakery item they can warm it up for you.
Civilization Coffee, is quintessentially "Cleveland." Centrally located in Tremont, it provides a robust and vintage environment, akin its roots. With coffee shops sprouting left and right, Civilization sets itself apart by its food, coffee, and atmosphere. I like to call this place a "Cleveland Original" ~ you'll be hard pressed to find anything else like it in the city.
Everybody here is always so super friendly. The people that work here are always very warm and inviting. I literally feel like I'm at a friend's house getting a fresh cup of coffee. The coffee is always fresh and it never tastes burned. I love that they have an assortment of fresh snack and bakery items plus sandwiches at lunch time.
The prices are affordable and very fair. It means so much to the local community to have places we can afford to come to and not feel taken advantage of for a cup of coffee and fresh snack.
Super cute and trendy coffee shop. The coffee is amazing and the baked goods are HUGE and delicious! The staff is very helpful and friendly if you need suggestions on what to order.
Probably my favorite coffee shop to visit just because of their dessert/bakery selections. Coffee was decent and they provided multiple lactose free milk choices. I recommend trying any of their "creamy" desserts and the pepperoni croissant.
