Great coffee, cool place and the staff is always super nice and helpful with great suggestions! My favorite coffee place in Charlotte. The black walnut iced latte with oat milk is AMAZING and is my go to there.

This is a forewarning for anyone looking to study or work on the weekends. This is also not a review of the staff, the beverages, or the ambiance, but I felt like this was an important message. I went to prepare for the work week on Sunday afternoon and found the tables riddled with small "No Laptop" signs on the tables. At the time, my initial thinking was that the establishment did not want computers on the furniture (because the alternative, banning them completely, seemed absured given that I regularly worked at The Hobbyist this summer. Shortly after getting my tea did one of the employees let me know about their new "unplug policy" on the weekends to give patrons a chance to connect with one another in person (although, when I looked around, the policy didn't seem to be efficacious). On the weekends, I sometimes need to get out of the house and complete work in a neutral space with other people who are similar in that regard, but I feel that this recent policy overplays its hand and falls short of the intended goals. Restricting patron's autonomy and choice in the entire space detracts from the neutrality of what I feel a coffee shop represents.

Definitely a huge fan of this place! Such a nice and friendly atmosphere, love the live music and the coffee is one of the best I've had in the city. Would recommend 100%

Typically I love going to The Hobbyist to knock out some work and grab a coffee, but I’m no longer continuing to go there and/or feel welcome. My girlfriend and I went Sunday afternoon to get some work done before the week. She only wanted a water to start out, and we were told by a worker, Jonathan, that if we didn’t order anything more than water we would be asked to leave. It was odd considering that he walked straight up to us individually and said that. We go pretty frequently, always order food and drinks, drop a good amount of money there on a weekly basis, and occasionally buy bottles of wine. It was definitely a very disrespectful event to come across, and I have never really come across something like that before. We will definitely be buying our coffee and wine elsewhere just due to that one individual staff member.

HUGE fan of this place and can’t believe I failed to give them 5 stars until now. It will forever hold a special place in my heart because my husband and I would take our newborn there every Friday evening until COVID hit. But we are back to going pretty regularly now, and it’s definitely one of our top few places to go in Charlotte. The staff is so friendly, the croissants are incredible (and sustained me through my pregnancy), and they have a great beer and wine selection. And the ambiance is so lovely. My kind of place for sure.

Was recommended this as a place for good beer while I do some work on my computer. Got there to signs saying no laptops, so that’s a no go, I guess? Judging from some other reviews I just read, this seems to be a common complaint. Bad policy imo.

No WiFi Friday-Sunday, their policy. No indication of this policy, yet the WiFi guest password is displayed. Place is great, I just like policies that affect the guest experience upfront and with consistency. Make the password flyer double-sided. So when Friday-Sunday comes around you can flip it over to say “weekend event-no internet. Enjoy.”
