My husband and I went into Mountain Grounds to do some business planning and had a great experience with Whitney as our barista. Thank you, Whitney!! The coffee was delicious, & we're grateful to have a friendly and welcoming coffee shop nearby!! ☕️ We will be back!

(Appalachian Fog or Foggy Ridge) Is an amazing tea latte with a twist. (Sorry I had both in the mountains within the same week and I cannot remember which is made here.) Either way what I do recall is that they steep the tea and espresso at the same time and top it with a milk froth adding a local honey, the result is amazing tea latte worth drinking multiple times a day. I was glad to be staying just a 1/4 mile away so I could enjoy many of these delectable drinks. Also, they make a seasonal hot apple cider that is so rich and soothing on a drive through the surrounding mountains. Go enjoy some of the finer things in life here.

Mountain Grounds is an exceptional Banner Elk coffee shop, featuring fine hot and cold beverages and an assortment of Stick Boy Bread Company breads, pastries and bagels.
The baristas are friendly and knowledgeable, and the atmosphere is comfortable and relaxing, featuring plenty of seating (indoor and out), as well as local photography and artwork. Plus, it's conveniently located in a shopping center, so there's always plenty of parking.

I went in for a coffee on my way to work. There was one lady sitting with her laptop waiting for a tea and two gentlemen ordered coffees and sat to wait for them. Meanwhile there was a group of three people in front of me waiting to order as was I. The young man behind the counter never acknowledged any of us waiting. He was busy behind the counter cleaning and doing busy work. I never saw him start the tea or the other coffees that had been ordered. After what seemed like 20 minutes but was probably 5, the group of three walked out frustrated without ever being acknowledged. I decided to wait a few more minutes and see if I could get that cup of coffee I really wanted. Not once did the rude young man ever look at me or acknowledge that he would be with me. I left after telling him how rude he was. Whoever the owners are, I hear that is your son who treated us this way and lost you 4 customers in less than 10 minutes. I wonder how long you will stay in business when Fred and Larry's welcomes people as they walk in. I will never come to your coffee shop again and I tell everyone who asks to be sure to honor Fred and Larry's.
