If you want authentic NEW MEXICAN cuisine with the friendliest staff and the most quaint restaurant; look no further than Jerry's Cafe. I can't begin to explain the sheer joy I had when I first stepped in and could smell the chili peppers in the air. The chips were fresh and the salsa was the perfect balance of heat and flavor. Please do yourself a favor and get your butt down to Jerry's; whether you're a local or just traveling along historic route 66. Jerry's will keep you full and happy and I promise it won't disappoint.
They open at 8:00. We got there at 8:02 and people were already eating. The staff was very friendly. The food was excellent, and if you walk away hungry, that's on you! I had a stuffed sopaipilla, and was it ever stuffed! Husband had the Wake Up Breakfast. It filled the plate. The bacon was done perfectly. Coffee was excellent, too! Didn't have to wait for refills. The place was very clean!
This is our first time in New Mexico. Driving through to Tucson Arizona we decided to stay for two nights and Jerry’s was highly recommended. We went there at 630 pm on a Wednesday night and had a slight wait - we were glad to see it so full with so many places struggling these days!
We were a family of 4 and had to wait about 15 minutes. If you were a couple you got in faster as there appeared to be more tables for 2 than 4. We did not mind the wait as we were able to talk to a few people who were waiting for their take out food. They all raved about the food and are there very often. They always say the best place to eat is where the locals do and they were right. After hearing from a few patrons how great the food was, what to order and some history on the Gallup area we were seated
We had the following dishes; chicken enchiladas, chicken sandwich, Jerry’s stuffed Sopaipilla and chicken taquitos. The service was very fast once we were seated and it seemed like the food just kept coming out. Many staff members checked on us to ensure we did not need anything. Very friendly staff. We would highly recommend eating here even if there is a wait!
Friendly fast service. Accepted minor modifications of our orders with grace. We ate a LOT of green chili peppers in our time in NM, Jerry's was no exception. Check out more about Gallup in our next post. Nomadic-serenity.com
We were driving through town and stopped at Jerry's Cafe for dinner. The food was excellent, and the service was fast and friendly. The place was busy, but things were kept moving right along. I would definitely recommend.
Don’t let parking stop you from visiting this gem! There is a parking lot designated for Jerry’s parking across the road. Diner vibe feels with rodeo photos and portraits on the wall. The staff are very friendly and prompt! The fresh sopaipilla’s with honey hit the spot. Our table had the create your own plate with chicken&cheese enchiladas with red sauce, served with beans and rice. This plate was very good! They could not stop talking about how juicy and flavorful the chicken tasted but wished the rice had more flavor. The next item was Cherelle’s Choice and you better be hungry! This monster is a flaky sopaipilla stuffed with quac, pork carnitas, and smothered with Chile and cheese. We chose red Chile, which has some heat, but next time I would have red and green on the side to enjoy both! This was the best meal! Very generous portions.
First of all had the best service ever on our first visit. Within 5 minutes we had 3 waiters ask us if we would like to order drinks. I had ice tea and before I could order my meal I was asked 2 times if I wanted it refilled. Waiter check on us as we needed more time to look over the menu. Food was wonderful and plentiful. Both me and my wife took home half our order. I had the Chili Relleno's my wife had the stuffed sopaipillas called Cherelle's choice. She loved it. If you want the experience of good New Mexican cuisine you need to visit Jerry's in Gallup. Small cafe with seating for about 60. We went at about 4:30 pm and had no wait but there was quite a few locals there eating. Green and red chili delicious 😋. 406 west coal ave Gallup NM.
Absolutely lovely! The food is very good for the price. It's not luxurious, but it is tasty--and exactly what you want on a road trip. Although the restaurant is a tight fit for customer and worker alike, the service is incredibly fast and friendly. It's a very warm and welcoming environment, and all customers I saw left leaving a smile. 😊
My parents used to bring us here after we got our Saturday shopping done, that's over 40 years ago! It's just as DELICIOUS now as it was then. I love everything Jerry's but the long line. But it's worth it!!
