Protagonist Cafe

Fantastic staff and coffee! Adorable everything, if you love books and great atmosphere this is the place to go. Lots of wonderful pastries to choose from too.

We were driving to the Arch, and this cafe was right on the way. It was so cute inside. Had the cutest stickers and cards. It’s actually a library and felt so comfy (even with COVID, they did such a good job). AND THEY HAD BREAKFAST BURRITOS. They were delicious!

In town briefly and looked around for a great local cafe for some morning coffee. Picked up a unique mint mocha, a citrus scone, and a blueberry muffin this morning. All were delicious. Got them to go, because COVID, but while I waited I took a look around at the books on the wall, which, as books always do, made me want to read all of them. A great idea with great execution!

What a wonderful addition to Soulard. I have been wanting to try this place for a while but the pandemic made it impossible. I had my son in a stroller and I couldn’t get into the cafe. The employees saw my struggle and offered the ramp located in the back so I could visit. The menu is great and they were nice to accommodate my love for a frozen drink. I will be visiting again.

Perfect coffee shop. The cappuccino was just right, prices are reasonable, barista was knowledgeable and easy to deal with, and the atmosphere is superb. It's a place you want to sit down and relax in. You don't feel rushed or hurried or cramped or anything. The book selection is decent, with a very wide range of titles and genres. When I imagine the ideal cafe, the image is startlingly close to this one.
And best of all right now, they're open, albeit with restrictions and sanitary precautions, but they're not aggressive about them.

Delicious coffee and breakfast burritos on the weekend. Other foods such as pastries as well. Accommodates most dietary restrictions, such as dairy-free and vegan friendly. Very polite staff, books to read and games to play for free!

Warm, cozy but spacious (I don’t know how they pulled that off). The food is amazing. The drinks are amazing. The staff is super knowledgeable and super friendly. They are dog friendly ❤️. You are surrounded by books (!!) and I hear they are gonna have alcoholic beverages and wine eventually so I will have everything I need to survive a Soulard winter. And they are OPEN. The hours are great! I can get my Go juice in the morning before the dreaded 8 am meeting and wine at night to wind down and cozy up. Happiness exists

This place has a great vibe! Almost like hanging out in your living room, but with coffee and tea. Reasonable prices and a nice selection (they even have wine).

I ordered the London Fog and it was probably the best one I've ever had. Will be coming back to try out their coffee in the future.

I LOVE protagonist cafe. I can bring my dog inside on her leash while I get my coffee during our walk! LOVELY space and great little things to buy too that are handmade. Just a great business I'm happy to support!

A great coffee shop that doubles as reading room. It has many greattitles. Great coffee and some sweets too. A good place to work on your laptop or meet a friend or chill out and read a book.
