A nice feel to the place. Busy, but not too much background noise. Affordable food and interesting staff.
UPDATED Sept 2014 Some changes made to the menu, they don't now have the pizza's we used to love! Overall a smaller menu, but still a great place for a sandwich, pastry or coffee (or all three)

Spacious place to study. Has excellent coffee and food. Service is amazing. The set up is nice because they have shades which can block out the sun well but the entire place is very well lit. Relatively busy and noisy; if you need complete quiet to study, probably not your best bet.

What a beautiful, wonderful establishment. Such kind staff. Great place to work. My fondest memories of St. Louis were here. AMAZING ICED MOCHAS! Used to order one every day. Avocado toast was really good too, be sure to add bacon/egg.

Go here quite a bit with friends. Nice atmosphere but it's usually super crowded on weekends during lunch hours. A bit pricy and I've only found a couple dishes that I like.
Edit: 3 years after posting this initial review, this place has changed quite a bit! Kayak's is no longer, and most of the food options have changed to that of the Kaldi's coffee chain. Unfortunately my favorite sandwich went with that change. Still, it's a fine place to get some coffee and get some work done, just without the amazing food options of before.

Interesting place. Great food and coffee but a bit hipster in environment. Lots of hangers who take a table for hours while not eating or drinking. Service will help with food choices but not there to help with seating. Kinda "not their problem". Could do better in that catagory since it is so busy. Worth the visit though at least once.

Part of the Kaldi's coffee 'empire', this is a student-oriented coffee shop and cafe that has lots of seating because they serve lots of students. It's a relatively comfortable place, with a sort of southwestern/mountain theme. Parking is scarce, and metered, but Kayaks is right on top of a MetroLink station and immediately adjacent to the Washington University campus. The coffee is great, and their food is good, too. Try the french toast, or one of their many house baked pastries, coffee cakes, and/or cookies. Fantastic.

Sabi may be right when it comes to not being cleaned as frequently as they should. But I love the place. It is not too far from one of my favourite places which is Forest Park. The entire Kaldi's Coffee House roster is very short. With this location, not only does MetroLink come out of Shrewsbury, but a ton of Call-a-Ride activity goes by this place. With that, Call-a-Ride could be a big hit since it would be going into Affton, picking up a bunch of people that are aged 55 and above and give all the cafes including this location a boost.

I love it here! The atmosphere is so fun and reminds me of home, but with more people. The baristas are so friendly and even remember my order a lot of the time! The egg bagel is a new staple of my diet, and the m&m cookie is just the right amount of goo-y and crunchy, making for a cheeky treat! :D

This is a bright and cheerful coffee shop! The drinks and patisserie are wonderful. It is a pleasant place meet a friend and have a lingering conversation, especially near the large, picture windows. It is somewhat noisy, both from the hum of conversations within and from drone of traffic outside.

Coffee is alright but $1 up charge for plant based milk is steep. Recommend going a couple blocks away to blueprint- no up charge for plant based milk
