I was there in April, so this review is pretty late. But after talking with new co-workers from the area who have never heard of it, I figure I'll write something about it.
This is the local coffee shop you want to go to if you're going to Minneapolis. Their coffee is great with cool themes (such as the "Big Easy" with chicory as an homage to New Orleans, or "The Hibernator" with honey to draw an allusion to bears and honey like with Winnie the Pooh). Also, the staff is great to talk to and on nice days the front of the store opens for you to peer outside. Check it out!

Five Watt is good coffee with hipster vibes. The coffee is unusual but excellent. I had on Ethiopian coffee that tasted like Earth and fungus. Sounds terrible but it was actually good. Because nothing says hipster coffee like overtones of Earth and fungi. The staff is friendly and will attend to your every coffee preference. The artisan goods in the back are expensive. Go to Five Watt for a good brew or two.

Best coffee in Minneapolis. These guys are passionate and very thoughtful about their coffee. They're willing to do things that push the coffee envelope which results in something new and original, but most of all delicious. They are actually friendly and courteous, instead of snobby, like some third wave shops can be. Definitely worth a stop.

The coffee was bonkers good. We got an Ethiopian bag to bring home with us. One of the best bags of coffee we've ever gotten.
The man who worked there was affable and knowledgeable. I'd rate him 5 stars too.

Very cool and cute one. Not lots of varieties but interesting menu. Only thing lacking is they dont have medium only small and large not sure its same in all coffee shops. Been here couple of times, and staff is very good.

Pretty busy. Wife's drink was reasonable tasty, however my espresso was basically undrinkable. It was a perfect storm of under and over extracted and so bitter. So if you want a specialty coffee drink, it might not be bad. A basic drink, not so much

The service is usually pretty good and when it isn't they make it right. Baristas are very friendly and happy, but the space is unimpressive at best and cramped at worst. My main complaint is the quality of coffee - I've been here at least a dozen times and have never been impressed by the espresso, the drip, or the pour-overs, which typically taste bland and lack any depth of flavor. For most people this probably doesn't matter - I was a barista for several years in specialty coffee so I'm much more picky than most. But since I consider five-watt a specialty coffee shop I judge them by the same standards as Spyhouse and Dogwood, and in terms of coffee quality they fall very short of the mark. I hope that as they grow they give more attention to taste, and as they gain roasting experience this may happen. But if it doesn't, then they're just a "cool" neighborhood spot with a mod-bar for people who don't know how genuinely delicious good coffee can (and ought to) be.

Over-crowded and over-priced. I've been here 3 or 4 times and there is never a place to sit. Very small space and crowded. Coffee is fine, but pretty high priced. Not worth trying to wrestle people for a place to sit, chat, or work.

The drinks here are very creative! I was definitely torn between the drink I got, The Pollinator and the 1944 Boyz cold brew. Barista was really fast and helped me choose! I will be returning for sure. I will say, my sister told me she usually comes here and it is extremely busy.

Personally, my favorite shop in the Twin Cities. Living in Saint Paul, this is still my most frequented coffee shop. The staff are amazing, the drinks are unlike anything you've had before, and it is fun to see ownership doing even more than just coffee with Big Watt.
