The view was awesome. The food was good, the smoked fish cheese cookies appetizers was special, salad was fresh and crispy, fried herring with tartar sauce was delicious, the trout chowder was yummy..... Good things stop here. Here is something we think it's definitely a no-no. They automatically added 18.5% as the service charge. no one came to add water or ask for service need or satisfaction... Hmmm... Nothing really qualified to deserve this charge.... BTW, if you visit here now, strongly suggest to dine indoor, because the wind is still cold and your order is chilled very fast!

Good food, wonderful views, fast service.

-1 for: After not being seated for a while, I finally asked if we would be seated soon. They said they called my name ("Angry John") and said someone named Jim responded so they gave them our table. We were near the door so they must have called me really quiet. In any case, no apology was offered - and got us off to a bad start.

Loved having a meal at the Angry Trout! Couldn't find a single thing about it I didn't like. Absolutely delicious food, and seems like quite a lot of it is locally sourced, including some very good beers. Their maple mustard dressing is especially good on top of hearty, varied salads that are positively unlike the salads you get at most restaurants (no iceberg lettuce in sight). Besides the good food and drink - a lot of it served in locally made dishes - there's clean unisex bathrooms and friendly staff. To top it all off, the view as you eat is incredible!

This used to be a good place to eat with great food and great service. Lately they've become quite full of themselves. The food is still good but the service is not. They can't wait to get you out of there. As a bonus they add a 20 percent service charge. They can't call it gratuity because that is something you give graciously for good service. A service charge is something they take indiscriminately. I'll never go back.

The staff were wonderful. I love the service charge idea! Now to the nitty gritty. The fried oysters were nice. I also had the fried herring, pasta, and asparagus. The pasta had fantastic flavor. The jewel in the crown was the herring (with dill sauce). This was some of the best fish I have eaten--cooked to perfection. Finally, their commitment to local wares, equality and sustainability for the world and especially their community is so refreshingly wonderful. This great restaurant talks the talk and walks the walk. 👏

It's definitely on the pricier side but well worth it for what you get. Pretty much everything there is made in house, including their soda (although you can get 1919 root beer). I have been to the Angry Trout multiple times over the years and its been fantastic. I think my one gripe is that it is always busy, so you will be waiting to be seated for a while. You need to have plenty of patience, but its well worth it. When my husband and I visited last summer we had their fish and chips special which was freshly caught local fish. It was delicious! We couldn't get enough of their home made tartar sauce. Make sure you check this place out if you visit Grand Marais, but remember that its a popular place.

We really enjoy the food here, the presentation of the food is also always very good. I rated the service a bit lower because they kicked us out for talking too much and I don't know that I've ever been asked to leave early due to another party behind us, and it wasn't like we were there very long. Otherwise wonderful food and atmosphere.

Delicious dinner!!! We both really enjoyed our meals. Fresh catch of the day (Lake Superior White Fish) was very tasty both grilled and fried. Great patio overlooking the water.

The restaurant looks welcoming but unassuming from the outside, but once you enter and start looking closer at the woodwork, you realize that everything about the building and art is exceptional. Even the structure itself is a work of art!

The work put into food is as good, if not better than the building too. I wanted to eat everything on the menu.

The Mushroom Skewers are so good. The meal sits light in the tummy but is full of flavor. I suggest you go with the pasta for the side and split the chocolate cake with everyone at the table.
