Absolute disappointment. This place is located in a college town yet offers no Wifi & plug outlets sealed off from the patrons. Not to mention the servings all run on a small scale. Size of a buck fifty rest area coffee. Just buy our products at a high price and get out. Go elsewhere.

I went in a Sunday evening 45 minutes before they closed so it probably wasn't the best representation of the usual service and usual vibe of the place but at that time it wasn't the greatest service or vibe. The coffee we got was good, although they already had packed up there milks and cream's and some options weren't available. I'd definitely give it another try at a different time.

Nice options for food, fast friendly service, and lovely ambiance. Coffee is usually good but today tasted a bit burnt. Great space to spend some quality time!

Northampton is full of nice places to sit for a good while and chat or read. Roost is one of my favorites. Prices are reasonable, food is good, the atmosphere is chill. Keep your receipt for the bathroom code!

Arugula salad with fruit and tofu is spectacular. Also, fruit and granola is great. They don't have outlets to plug in your laptop. Not ideal place to spend all day working. Go to dobra up the street for that.

Great place to visit! Good coffee! Like the variety of games in the coffee shop!

Great place!

They serve a wide variety of things, sandwiches, beer, coffee, cupcakes.

They do have vegan food options including some of their baked goods.

Come with a group and bring a board game to play. Or pick one out from their collection.

Nice place to work, and a wide menu of good stuff - far from just coffee. I think a laptop work session with a vanilla milkshake is divine. BUT my god what is with the lack of power outlets? Its a BIG drawback if you need to work for a long time and your comp is a battery hog.

I love everything about this place but the service. Maybe it's New England thing, but except for a couple of exceptions the staff for me is just plain unfriendly. I like people alot, but most of these people don't seem to unless of course your their friend. It's interesting to watch if you sit and observe. There are 2 classes of people one they are friendly to the other they're not! Given the age group it almost seems like it's a cool thing for them to be aloof.

My wife and I LOVE this place and come here as often as possible, HOWEVER…
There are issues, which is why I am giving them one star, to make a point. For example, I am sitting in the establishment itself, submitting this review using my personal hotspot, because the proprietors TURN OFF THE WI-FI ON WEEKENDS. More on that below.
The GOOD points:
(1) Unbelievably pleasant, cozy atmosphere; music is not too loud; interesting, eclectic crowd
(2) An amazing variety of coffee beverages and other soft drinks, AND alcohol! Woo-hoo!
(3) Abundant, high-quality food offerings, from snacks and sandwiches to pastries, even breakfast food
(4) Staff is very friendly and professional, a genuine pleasure to interact with
(5) Prices are reasonable; good value
(6) Long hours; open until midnight on weekends
The BAD points:
(1) Free wi-fi — EXCEPT on weekends, or in the evenings. I.e., useless for most people’s purposes
(2) All power outlets are intentionally covered over
(3) Restrooms are combination-locked; access code required
You see a pattern here. In this incredibly liberal, tolerant, western Massachusetts small town, with a cool, hippie-ish staff, the Roost has the soft of fascist customer policies one would expect to see in a really bad neighborhood in New York City. It’s obvious what they’re doing; they want to encourage turnover and discourage people from loitering for too long without purchasing. It all gives a very distasteful impression of greed and contempt for the customer. And I’m not sure it’s even working; I’m sitting here on a Saturday afternoon and seeing lots of empty seats. Maybe if they weren’t so avaricious, it would actually be good for business.
If we found a spot that shared the Roost’s positive qualities but lacked the negatives, we would probably never come here again.
