Maybe things have changed since some of the earlier reviews but we were quite disappointed with Watami. Too many fried/cooked things on the menu for a sushi restaurant. We ordered shumai to start and it was deep fried rather than steamed. It was heavy and tasted like old oil. We also had a roll with spicy tuna and tempura shrimp on each end. Once again, the shrimp tasted like old oil. The service was also lacking. The waiter never asked if we wanted more wine, green tea or refilled our water glasses when mine was obviously empty. Granted there were only two people working in a full restaurant.
Perhaps people like the price point more than the quality of the food as it is quite reasonably priced.

My daughter loves sushi and convinced us we should get some tonight so we figured we would order takeout while having a beer at Moderation. Percy (from Moderation) suggested Watami was both closer and better so we got some from here and ate it next door. I hadn't realized they were there before this.
Not only does my daughter now have a new favorite sushi place, but my son who is very picky and basically always needs to just eat when we get home any time we eat out not only ate half of one item but was insisting we get more. So I guess next time he gets his own order...
(Sushi crazed daughter also loved the drink she got!)

Oh so good 👍. Of course I forgot to take pictures until after diving in to four different appetizers. That was probably enough for my wife and I, but we had to share a dinner also. Everything was delicious and we can hardly wait to go back and try some more different items. I'll try to remember pictures. So far our favorite appetizer was the "Dinosaur egg". See you really soon 😋

If you're looking for a place to satisfy your sushi cravings, look no further than Watami. This restaurant serves some of the best sushi around. The portions are generous and the prices are reasonable. I especially enjoyed the Pink Lady the spicy tuna roll. I have not tried the ramen but I heard it's amazing! The only downside of Watami is the atmosphere. It's more like a cafeteria than a cozy dining spot. The tables are crowded, the lighting is harsh and the noise level is high. Don't expect any fancy décor or romantic ambiance here. But if you're willing to overlook that, you'll have a great time at Watami. It's worth it for the sushi!

I love this place. Waiting time is short. Food is good. I never miss a boba drink when I am here.

We have been looking for an under the radar Japanese place North of Portland for awhile and this ended up being exactly what we wanted. It is extremely tucked away under Richard's and it wasn't until I stumbled upon it online that I even knew it was there.
This is not a type of place you go for a "nice" night out, this is where you go when you want to sit down and casually have some sushi or a bowl of Ramen. They so both extremely well and both were presented beautifully. The atmosphere does not reflect the quality because the food is great.
I will be adding this spot into local my rotation going forward for sure!

Everything on the menu is amazing. They are always fast and friendly. The Boba in the bubble tea is always fresh and you can feel that it's still warm. The shoyu Ramen is my absolute favorite.

The food was amazing! Make sure to try the Dinosaur Egg, it's worth it. The restaurant has a "unique vibe", like a rusty food truck spaceship from the movie Fifth Element. It's not the prettiest place, but it adds to the experience.
You know it's good when you stop trying other places.

SO. GOOD! Tonkatsu ramen with spicy chili oil was awesome, way exceeded my expectations and it was a huge portion. Sushi rolls were all excellent, and the brown sugar boba milk tea was perfect. This is a gem of a restaurant in Brunswick, must try!!
