Better-than-storebought vegan cream cheese to go with vegan bagels! Plus vegan fudge! Cafe happily let us stay awhile to use their wifi. Owner is friendly & personable. (August 2018)

Was visiting the White Mountain National Forest and drove through Bethel on a whim during our drive to Portland. Cafe DiCocoa is what got us to stop in the town as we discovered other awesome small businesses too.

The cafe was great. We got an assortment of things like chai tea, cookies, premade salads, and apple cider. Everything was top notch and we really wanted to take home some of their cookie dough but it wouldn't have survived the flight home unfortunately.

Wedding cake ordered. Agreed on cake and delivery to top of Sunday River. (can I give NEGATIVE -10)??
No issue. A month before the wedding, bride gets a call from bakery...We won't deliver cake. "We didn't know about some function happening in Bethel and that's more important than your wedding cake." SERIOUSLY THAT'S WHAT THEY TOLD THE BRIDE!!
Then LOTS of trying to reach this bakery to get nowhere. Messages not returned...never open...never answer phone...
Sunday River Wedding coordinator had to call and work out cake delivery. She had a difficult time reaching this place... Cake was delivered, to the BOTTOM of the lift and left with Coordinator who asked "You are not going to transport your creation to the top, you are going to leave it with me to do?" the answer was "yes. we don't care".
SO the cake arrived and was fine...until it was cut. I have never been so put off by cake. The actual cake served to the bride and groom was fresh and good. The sheet cake provided for guests was not fit for the pigs. It was DRY and hard and spoons bounced off of it. INEDIBLE. The staff forewarned me the frosting was terrible, tasted like whipped cream with butter, period. They said the cake was terrible. I had no idea until I received my piece. I cannot even describe it. Maybe egg mixed with flour and baked? Or maybe water and cornmeal? DRY, hard, inedible. Worst cake I've ever encountered. Guests agreed. (at least the wedding personal cake was edible to the bride and groom)... nothing else was. The cake tasted like it was FROZEN for months IF NOT YEARS...and full of freezer burn. I cannot describe the awfulness.
KUDOS to Sunday River for requesting we order a back up dessert!!! GLAD WE DID!

Food is good and staff are great. Don't order a size small unless you only want a shot of coffee. The price for the size of a small is as rip off.

Love this cute cafe. Coffee is good, food is even better. The blueberry cardamom cake was as good as it looked, and the birdseed cookies surprised me with how tasty they were.

Good food, but they have serious hygiene problem. It was a rainy day and we ate inside. There were flies everywhere! Flies come from maggots that feed on the food. In NYC the place would be closed just for the amount of flies inside. When using the restroom in the back, it was clear they do not thoroughly clean behind-the-scenes. When I returned home that day I had small itchy bites on my lower shins and ankles (I had worn shorts that day). Either the flies bit me, or they have a flea problem too. I wonder if Bethel has a health inspector?
