Honestly, the food is great! I had the salted beer caramel latte and enjoyed it! I also had the granola yogurt, also really really good.My boyfriend had the two sandwiches in the back of the photo and he had the seasonal drink, the peppermint mocha.
Those are the great things, unfortunately, I did have an issue with five and hoek. We ordered our food and waited and quickly got the two sandwiches and our two drinks. We ended up waiting almost 20 minutes for the yogurt. I can definitely see that wait for the sandwiches but not the yogurt. It may have been a mistake and the ticket was thrown out without reading the entire thing. It happens. I'm not super upset regarding that.
We were compensated with a couple of drink tokens for a future order and I do appreciate it. But the experience still kind of left a bad taste in my mouth.

Simply put, River City is the best espresso I've had in Chicagoland. There are some good roasters in Chicago, but the Ethiopian Limu bean River City often uses for its espresso is still number one in my mind (other beans here are good too!). Moreover, I have always received top-notch service, with several instances where employees have taken it upon themselves to go out of their way to help me out (such as a free cup of coffee after a harmless mixup). Everyone has their own preferences on space, but I love the design inside River City as well. I just wish there was a location in the city I could access more often!

Cute little hipster place. The coffee is good but I would say the best local coffee is I Have A Bean. Definitely go here instead of Starbucks across the street, unless you're in a rush.

Staff was super nice and creative! I had a latte with oat milk and it was awesome. Clean place with a good variety on the menu. Great place to sit and get work done too!

The coffee here is excellent. Pricey, but artisanal and better quality. Very consistent on their lattes and not overly sweet. Atmosphere comes off a little "off", sort of industrial. Would appreciate if they could post a menu instead of just a QR code. If you are looking for a great cup of coffee though, this is your place. Staff has always been friendly. Will be back.

Hidden away in a back alley, this is a gem of a coffee shop! The espresso/chocolate biscuits we delicious! The Everything But The Bagel Croissant is out of this world delicious!!

Lots of third wave spots put Cortado on the menu but can’t actually pull shots. This place is special. Dialed in baristas and perfect light roast coffees. They recognize that coffee is a fruit. Great find in an unexpected place.

Super chill and cute environment! Got a cortado, and which most cafes make them either too hot or too foamy, but this place definitely nailed it!

A grab and go coffee shop! If the weather isn't nice out don't expect to sit because there is no indoor space. The coffee is super high quality and they have unique, homemade syrups for their espresso drinks :)

Phenomenal espresso drinks. First time and walked out with 2 bags of in-house roasted beans. Glad to see a proper specialty coffee shop in the area.
