I've been a customer of the Springfield Illinois barnes and nobles for at least 15 years but that may be ending today I went to the Springfield store to look for several history books. I finally found my books and sat down to choose which ones to purchase there is now a 30 min limit to sit at a table I can understand if store is busy but there were few people in at that time. I was told my time was up for the table so I got up with a big stack of books and tried to continue looking at the books at customer service. Then I was told that my face covering was not adequate I had a bandanna and that if I stayed any longer I would have to find a different covering or leave. I told the manager that if he didn't want my business I could take it somewhere else and I will. Barnes and nobles is in bad enough shape without running off what business they have I'm sure my local bookstore or Amazon will appreciate my business more. I can understand requesting people wear face mask but I think this was taken too far in this instance

Although a bit pricey, one can purchase an annual membership for $25. This provides a 15% to 20% discount on every purchase. Plus, they almost always have specials of one type or another, such as an extra 10% off your purchase, etc.
Barnes and Noble have a wide array of books, magazines, maps, etc. If they don't have something, they can order it. There is a large diversity of reading material, plus a small cafe, where variations of coffees, teas, muffins, etc., can be ordered.
The staff is friendly and helpful. It is a most enjoyable experience.

This is a very nice store, clean and orderly. Very helpful and courteous staff. Impressive selection of books, magazines, art and writing supplies, etc.
Wonderful place to get lost in for a while.
Many shopping options close by. Easy access.

They did not have a journal that was what I was hoping for. I mentioned to the sales associate that only 2 companies were represented in their stock, and all but 2 of the journals, were brown! Most seemed very masculine, and I am a middle-aged university professor, that happens to be a female. I do know that people respond differently to color, and all brown journals, except for 2 black ones, and representing only 2 companies, just felt sad! So, now I have decided on a few from Amazon! I Really wanted to go home with a new journal, but now I am waiting for an Amazon delivery! I Really want brick and mortar bookstores to continue to exist! However, what I experienced was pretty bad! Also I had been searching for over 30 minutes, before an employee got close enough for me to ask for help! 2 employees were working on some sort of backdrop for beh
ind the counter. Whatever it was, I don't think that it was as important as a customer trying hard to find what they were
wanting, and trying to spend some money!

I am probably being kind due to strong nostalgia. I love this place. I love bookstores. This one is getting tired, but not quaint, likeable tired like a trusted hole in the wall. No, more that familiar strip mall tired, like a K Mart or old WalMart. It is too bland too acquire character...still, the staff remains friendly and helpful. The book selection continues to slowly dwindle as they continue to devote ever increasing retail space to games, puzzles, and toys as the store struggles to understand they need to double down on their core, rather than selling what soul it had in the hopes of pleasing flighty investors who only care about today's dollar earned, not the stability and strength of a strong, dedicated brand.

We love Barnes and Noble, and visit about every two weeks for fresh books and a cookie and tea. The staff is always friendly and helpful and there’s plenty of good books to bury our noses in. Their events are always a blast, especially the kids ones. If you want to encourage your kids love of learning B&B is none but second (to libraries of course!).

Only decent bookstore in town. If they don't have what you want, they will order it and ship to your home. Great customer service and the staff seem to be bookworms. They read a lot and can advise you on whether a book is worth reading. I like Barnes and Noble.

I bought a couple of books here on August 4th, 2021. On my way out I noticed there were books that target satanism for children. I have in the past had alot of good trips here but today this just ruined the way I felt about this store. One is pictured below but I saw a few books like this there . I can not support this .
